I Miss BP

I think people just want to move on with a new coach. Threads like this don't help, especially when CCM has us playing well.

Didn't intend to start a civil war...BP's name came up during post Thanksgiving banter and thought it would be an interesting topic during the down time.

Fully behind CCM and it's time to take Oakland to the shed.

Yes......he was a good rebounder was beating his man almost every time to the basket but he played out.of.control......took ill advised shots.....got his shot block and would.go out of control causing.very damaging turnovers. Once he learned to control himself.....where to get shots from he was going to be a very good player.

I won't.credit pearl too much on smith either bc his.freshman yr even though he didn't have the stats to back it up.....he really looked like he could be a player.

I agree, Maymon tried to hard in the small amount of time he was in a game his first year, but, I saw the potential. You don't win the Mr. Basketball award your junior and senior year in high School if you can't play.

I'm not a pearl fan...I'm a Tennessee fan.

I actually had a much longer post agreeing with your thought on the emotional stability of many posters here. I decided to erase it, so the post wasn't meant to be a knock on you at all.

Said nobody after 2010-2011.

You must have joined this board recently. There was an all out war between two sides, those that thought Maymon was a stud and those that thought Maymon was a worthless waste of a scholly.

Was I talking to you? I never said every player was Pearl's did I? That said I'm sure your preaching how great CCM is recruiting compared to Pearl which obviously isn't true.

Well this is what you said...

"Pearl's players are the one's starting"

I was simply pointing out that seeing as how Richardson and Stokes arent "pearls players" that your above statement was inaccurate.

Whatever your not one that should be talking about being inaccurate. Have you bought a new crystal ball yet?

Just throwing it out there. Nothing against CCM; by all accounts he is a good man and a good coach and will do good things here. And Pearl made several mistakes and had to go.

But man, I miss seeing that fire and energy he had on the sideline.

The problem with some of you so called fans is that when things don't go the way you want them you start focusing on the past. It's a shame some of you can't move on. If it's not Bruce Pearl it's reminiscing about the 98 team. It's kind of sad really.

When he decided to transfer, yes there was a huge battle about him. I sat on the fence because I didn't know his game.

After 2010-2011, I'd say 90-95% of all the posters gave up on Maymon. I remember in the spring when Martin finished his recruiting class that Hall/Woolridge/Miller would get most of the minutes and that Maymon had very little shot of starting.

I agree that he wasn't that great of a talent evaluator at the HS level.

Childress - brought with him from UWM, had a good sophomore year and then disappeared from the face of the earth
Chism - great player
Crews - dismissed after sophomore year
Johnson - terrible player who ended up coming off the bench at Georgia State
R. Smith - dismissed after sophomore year; huge academic and character risk
Tabb - limited role player
Tatum - contributor but wildly inconsistent
Williams - never reached his potential
Hopson - great player although inconsistent
Jurick - terrible player
West - where is he now?
Woolridge -awful player and an even worse rapper
Hall - average at best
Golden - good player despite the rough start
Harris - great player
McRae - solid player

I know every coach has misses, but that's what, 5 or 6 good players in six recruiting classes? It's amazing how many of Pearl's best players were JUCOs or transfers (T. Smith, Prince, Maze, Goins, Maymon). I loved Pearl but let's not pretend he was anything more than a decent OTF coach and an elite salesman.
You can analyze Pearl's recruiting the way that you want but at the end of the day it's all about wins. Pearl's record speaks for itself. He made a dumb mistake that cost him his job but the Bruce Pearl era was fun and exciting for our program. What he done while he was here will be tough to duplicate. The Tennessee basketball program has never been a Duke/Kentucky type program but by reading some posts here insulting Pearl's accomplishments, one would think that it was. He done things at UT that has never been done, yet Coach Martin is being praised already and his first team didn't make the tournament. I'm a fan of Coach Martin and I believe that he will be successful here but to say that he's better than Pearl at this time, is ridiculous when measuring career accomplishments thus far.

First off let me say I really think Conzo is a decent coach, however, this boring style of basketball is painful to watch, I really miss Bruce and the days of high flying offense, we should have waited out the three years, this basketball makes me want to take a nap.

Amazing how everyone misses the high flying offense of a guy who couldn't coach offense.

I can't remember to many times Pearl's Tennessee teams scored only 36 points in a game. Pearl was a great coach. I hope Martin succeeds, but I don't see him doing as well as Pearl at this point. He is already behind his record at Tennesse in that he did not make the NCAAs last year. If Tennessee does not get better at attacking a zone defense they may not make it this year.
