You’ve got one sh-tty program when a coach that has never got you beyond the Sweet Sixteen in seven years is your best.

So I suppose South Carolina under Frank Martin is such a better program since they got to the Final Four the one and only time they made it to the tournament in 10 years.

UT has a crappy basketball program? I beg to differ. We've got a good program. Not great but good.
We've been past the SS exactly once and that was by one game. So none of our coaches have excelled in the NCAAT. All things considered I'd put Barnes as the best although there's a strong argument for Mears.

As you should. Great coach who runs the program with humility and class. It is hard to dislike the man.

Some of the fanbase however. . ..

😁
I have a truckload of peacocks scheduled to be delivered to Rupp Arena for Midnight Madness. Do you think Cal will mind?

Mears could not win an NCAA tourney game with Ernie and Bernie. Mears should not be mentioned in comparison to the great Rick Barnes. I know it was a different era but the only SEC team worth a flip back then was Kentucky with the Vols and Bama being decent. Ray had an entertaining program but as far as being a top level coach - NO.

You realize Mears played 1 NCAA game with Ernie & Bernie? Probably not.

You realized the first round in those days paired the SEC champion Tennessee vs Big East Champion Syracuse? Probably not.

There were no Longwoods in the NCAA then. But you didn’t know that either.

Barnes runs a clean solid basketball program. He wins and develops talent. Despite the knock on him he absolutely dialed up solid offensive plays last night….he can’t go out and shoot it too. That was on the players…mainly Vescovi for making himself nonexistent for 40 minutes. He broke the cycle of SEC Tournament losses and brought that championship home. Despite possibly KC leaving…our front court roster is elite. With ZZ back, most likely JJJ and Vescovi….welcome BJ Edwards and we have a strong shot at an SEC Championship again.

Most importantly….you hire a HC to go and beat your rivals/arch enemy. Barnes officially owns Cal & Kentucky. He has turned bluegrass blood stained orange. He now has beaten Cal’s Kentucky Wildcats 10 out of 17 games. No other active HC can make that claim against Kentucky. Knowing that I turn 46 in April…and Kentucky fans have seen 7 wins in football during that span makes me grin ear to ear. Now thanks to Coach Barnes….I get to enjoy seeing their arrogance turned to jealous excuses full of pain & misery.
Thank you so much Coach Barnes for giving your all to Tennessee and the agony of Blue Nation!
