Got no choice. He's going nowhere and we aren't likely to do better. Just enjoy the regular seasons and temper expectations come tournament time.Despite yesterday's results, I stand behind Rick Barnes 100%
Tennessee was leading the whole game and really we should have won. It's a fact that this team was missing open shots and that's not on the coach... it was a choke job by the team itself.
Tennessee had an amazing year and if we are going to ge realistic about it, when have we seen Tennessee basketball with this much constant success?
Yeah, we can get spoiled and try hiring a young rising coach and hope he pans out (Mike White was supposed to be that coach) or we could go after a veteran coach (Ben Howland) he was a total dud at MSU, but it wouldn't be smart to do so.
Rick Barnes has Tennessee going the right direction in every aspect and we will be even better next season. Hopefully we can add Julian Philips... imagine him playing with JJJ?!
It's in my personal belief that Barnes should have this job until he decides he wants to retire.
Best Tennessee Men's basketball coach ever
Why even care about the regular season if you can't get out of the first or second round of the Tournament that matters? Like another poster stated, Barnes will be competitive in the regular season but come tournament time don't expect to get out of the first weekend. I guess that's ok for some fans.
Very well saidWhy even care about the NCAAT? The holiday tournaments are about as entertaining.
Living in the top 25 while breaking new ground matters. TN was ranked in the Top 25 every single week this year. TN was #1 in the country for a month a few years ago. The SECT was won by TN for the first time in 4 decades. There’s also two other SECT finals and being in position to win SEC regular season titles. Players are making more NBA rosters than ever before. 5-stars are signing. There’s the games being won versus KY. There’s going undefeated at home. All those things make not elevating TN’s NCAAT history far more palatable. As long as TN keeps getting into the tournament 4 out of every 5 years or so, the deeper runs will eventually happen.
But the NCAAT is really turning into a made-for-TV farce of a tournament anyway. I’m not all that concerned and the NCAA itself could be soon on life support anyway. They are desperate for huge ratings after missing out on so much revenue during COVID. The whistles are very questionable in many games. The seeding and matchups are a clown show. It’s the Duke Invitational right now and I can’t wait for K to be terminated forever.
You'll go to any length. NCAA tournament is meaningless. Great take. Love him or hate him or just accept him. Barnes will most likely go into the Hall of Fame with a small group of guys who never won a Natty. If Few doesn't do it soon he may do it too. It's just who he is. The sooner the MOST realize that the less we'll be disappointed in March. But we don't need your silly excuses. Why even care about the NCAAT? The holiday tournaments are about as entertaining.

And your and a few other's silly take that it's all Luck should take a good look at Kenpom this morning. 8 of the sixteen are top 10 on kenpom. I read your takes literally and most suggest you are about as obtuse as they come when defending Barnes.Nowhere does it say that the NCAAT is “meaningless”. Reading is hard.
It isn’t the ONLY thing that matters. Maybe it is for short attention span posters that don’t follow the entire season and just begin to follow in March. 67 teams that are in it won’t win it.
Your disappointment, miserable take, and failed interpretation are noted.
I’ll just leave this here. Travesty by the NCAA. No wonder they were able to maul us at Will with these UM lackeys officiating.Absolutely. And by the way, here's our refs from the Michigan game...
Larry Scirotto
Some guy on an Illinois message board wonders why they do comparatively poorly in games that Scirotto ref (10 games in a season):
Is Larry Scirotto our kryptonite?
Meanwhile, Scirotto has reffed one Kentucky game, ever, and that was against Michigan State:
Larry Scirotto - Officiated Kentucky Games
Did we draw a Big 10 ref in a game against Michigan?
Earl Walton
Gets tossed from Big East tourney, goes to ref Big 10 tourney instead:
Referee Earl Walton, barred from Big East Tournament, officiates in Big Ten quarterfinals
UConn fan board guy opinion, Walton is one of the best who "let players play"
Referees today
Joe Lindsay
Guess who was around to end our season against Purdue in 2019?
We got hosed by Ref Joe Lindsay
