I think CCM will be back for year 4

People need to stop blaming Hart and look a little higher up. Athletics just aren't a priority at this school, period. Ineptitude across the board, just a joke of an athletic department

The same Dickey who could have hired Bill Self but stated he would be run out of town if he hired the coach from Oral Roberts. That Dickey?

That's the one.

Also allowed and encouraged Kentucky merchandise to be sold at TBA when Kentucky came to town.

I don't see Bruce going to Memphis. By the time Memphis cans CJP, Bruce will be getting a contract extension and raise at whatever school snatches him up in this off season.

For those that hope and expect CCM to be fired - I think you will be disappointed. I believe Hart will give him year 4. It's not like we've had losing records in year 1 and 2. This is a football school.

The team will probably make its usual February run and finish just short of the tournament again. Next year could be bad once McRae leaves. I'm not saying he should stay, just saying I doubt Hart pulls the trigger at the end of the year. The whole staff reminds me of Dooley 2.0

As much as I wanted dooly to be fired last year OP is correct. They are not going to pay some buy out, that we can't afford. That being said nextyear will be ugly without much talent.

Butch and Pearl would make for two exciting sidelines :)

He's gone. A miracle SEC tournament championship run is the only thing that could save him because this team will lose a lot more games.

I agree....This staff is terrible...CCM has the personality of a potato chip...He just isn't what UT basketball needs...He's had 3 years and it doesn't take 3 years to build a basketball program...Much easier to rebuild than football and he hasn't done anything to improve....He needs to go.

As in I'm not sure he cares enough about bball to do it
I'm not so sure about that. Hart knows bball can be a money-maker, but if and only if it wins. TBA will be a ghost town the rest of the year, particularly w/ no UK on the home slate. Unless a huge turn-around happens, I don't think he'll have much choice.

I think he'll be back too unless the season really tanks. If the Vols are an NCAA bubble team again and just miss, they'll keep him. Remember, the AD is not Dave Hart. Dave Hart is merely an administrative puppet for Jimmy Cheek. Cheek couldn't care less about the athletic programs, especially since he's not getting the money he once got from it. He would rather see us go low budget on coaches and hover around a break even AD than gamble on a big time coaches.

Take a step back for one min and look at things. You bring Cuonzo in and pay him towards the bottom of what SEC coaches and D1 coaches in general make, the fan base always rally around the new coach thus increases excitement around the program resulting in increased revenue. Coach is given a pass for year one (Year Zero in Dooley time). Second year average results, rumblings start, still general optimism about the future. Third year, team shows no improvement, excuses are waning, fans become disinterested, revenue drops, coach becomes on the hot seat. Fourth year (if the coach is fortunate enough to get it) because he's on the hot seat, recruiting has begun to fall off. Another sub-par year. Coach is fired. And the cycle repeats itself. Wash, Rinse, Repeat.

So my point is, does it really matter whether Martin gets fired? Chances are they'll go out and make a hire that we'll all have to run to Google to figure out who the coach is. Same thing in football. Let's not kid ourselves, Coach Butch Jones appears to be a great hire. But if it turns out that way it would be because of shear luck. He was way down the list of coaches that we were told that we attempted to hire. Until there are changes at the top at UTK, you can expect the same stuff we've been getting.

CJP doesn't look to be going anywhere anytime soon. Finally has his team playing at an elite level, and look to be steaming into conference play.

Not sure why you think he'd be fired.

The article posted eluded to CBP going to Memphis next year.

The two surgeons (UT grads and boosters) I work with both want Pearl back - both say it will not happen because of Cheek - both say fire Cheek- how bad would this Scenario be -Martin is removed (nice guy -wish it would have worked out for him) - position opened and Pearl not a candidate - how much excitement will there be for the new coach? Hart will have to hit a home run and is a top coach going to come here ? Just seems like a no win situation. Are we watching the death of a basketball program?

We have a 20,000 seat stadium. Basketball pays plenty of bills and any AD who puts hoops on the back burner should be fired as well.

Paying off a bad coach, no matter the buyout, is good business. You want to worry about losing money? Wait until you keep a horrible coach an extra year too long. How much did Tennessee lose out on by having Dooley for 2012?

Yes. I believe his buyout could be termed a sunk cost.
