I think CCM will be back for year 4

We've all seen this drill before. UTAD always keeps a coach at least one year longer than they should. Martin will be back next year and it will set the program back to the Buzz Peterson era.

Martin's buyout goes to 1.3 million on April 1, 2014

Pretty sure it is 1.56 million.

It's 60% of his remaining salary. His salary is 1,350,000. (Got bumped $50k from 1.3 million.) 810k per year for buyout.

Fire him April 2014: $1,620,000
Fire him April 2015: $810,000

Keeping him thru 2015 with only 1 year left on his contract would be killer to recruiting. Especially for a coach who hasn't made the tourney. That has a financial impact that can't be overlooked and so do ticket sales. If you believe you're going to fire him in the next 18 months, it's cheaper to do it in April 2014, in my opinion.

10,000 empty seats and loss on concessions/item sales/parking would amount to how much potential revenue lost each home game? Say 300k for a rough estimate and on the very low end. Could be up double or triple that number, actually.
That's 3 game's lost revenue to pay for a buyout that would potentially be made back in a few games with the right hire. They are going to start losing too much potential revenue each home game to not do something, and if it's drastic, so be it. I don't know how many home games left this year and next, but the math should force their hands. People aren't going to continue to go and watch the bs product they put on the court.

You are overestimating loss in ticket sales.

you mean we won't lose 10k tickets per game? or the dollar amount.
It's just a guess anyway, but that arena was empty last night. People watching on tv don't want to go watch them play, and people that went won't go back.

Both. Majority of the tickets have already been sold.

This right here ^^^^^. The major losses in revenue won't show up until next year when season tickets don't get renewed. Concession losses could add up though but I'm not sure to what extent. It'll depend on how proactive the AD wants to be. Do I wait for the inevitable or do I go ahead and anticipate the worst?

how many season tickets were sold this year?

No idea. He's won enough at home to keep people renewing this far. Next year will likely be a different story. They announced nearly 15k last night which is likely tickets sold not attendance. That game should have drawn closer to 17k in attendance.

Look, if the fans and admin are not sold on Martin being able to consistently get UT to the dance and otherwise keep UTat a competition level where it wants to be, it makes sense financially and for the health of the program to let him go after this season.

In 2014, his 4 highest scorers will be leaving. He's bringing in a class that doesn't seem to have one instant impact player. From the way it looks on December 19, 2013, Robert Hubbs and Josh Richardson are going to be your two main offensive weapons. They may develop a lot over the course of this season, but I'm sure that prospect doesn't thrill Vol fans.

Next season is going to be a rebuilding year regardless, if Cuonzo ain't the guy, you may as well bring in the new coach in 2014 to start installing his system rather than keep Cuonzo around for another year to "rebuild".

I think I agree with MC on this one.

I have no idea what he's talking about. I never said fire him during the season. I said that the money lost in ticket sales wouldn't really hit til next season because many people have already purchased tickets for this year.

For those that hope and expect CCM to be fired - I think you will be disappointed. I believe Hart will give him year 4. It's not like we've had losing records in year 1 and 2. This is a football school.

The team will probably make its usual February run and finish just short of the tournament again. Next year could be bad once McRae leaves. I'm not saying he should stay, just saying I doubt Hart pulls the trigger at the end of the year. The whole staff reminds me of Dooley 2.0

If Martin can't win with these players what would make anyone think he can win next year without most of them?

If we're going to make a run it better start soon! Realistically, there's some pretty tough games remaining and after what I've seen I'm not too excited to see how these tough games turnout. I think saying Martin can't coach would be beating a dead horse, hopefully we make a change sooner rather than later. From a business standpoint, there's obviously a risk vs reward assessment that would have to be done. That being said would it be cheaper to wait out Martin's contract (lost revenue in ticket sales, concessions, apparel, and conceivably donations) or buyout Martin and hire a new coach?

It amazes me how the big donors don't do something about Cheek. Is he really great at kissing their butts? Our athletics will continue to suck as long as that adversarial jackass is around.

Tell that to the 20+ thousand that packed the place during the BP tenure or that watch the Lady Vols. Football may be #1 but folks love to see the program successful...and there are boosters who happen to think the sport is very important...

I am hearing CCM is bringing in Lame Kiffin to evaluate our offense. So look out Morehead we are putting up 80 and only getting 10 shots batted down.

Mark it down
