If, they win some of those against good opponents, I would agree. We've gone to some bowl games in the past, only a few, that I wished they'd turned down. Depends on which bowl it is to me.
They will get momentum back because they are playing an inferior team. You are a bit of a dreamer. Georgia has a lot of talent....I predict Georgia comes out on top 35-21.
If you talk to fans of other teams not wearing the Orange glasses, they do point out some really suspect decisions and events that have took place thus far when asked their opinion of the new coaching staff.
I don't believe it.. I've heard two coaching staffs tell us they were going to be a power running team n then on 3rd or 4th n short they throw the freaking ball.. these spread guys go pass first but want to try n run it.. sooner or later vol nation will understand n look at the top 3 teams in sec n they have a power running game with an above avg qb that can pass when needed.. this stupid high school 4 play off we have seen so far will get us the worst record in the history of tn... we have to see either a more complicated off scheme or a better running formation.
Today we r predictable n look like a bad high school team.. totally embarrassing and I challenge anyone to say its only talent.... they can regroup n we will see
Until Tennessee is consistently ranked in the preseason they won't have much momentum going up against teams ranked like #2..
A win against South Alabama is as big a victory as one against St. Mary's School for the Blind. It's a game that can't help UT but sure can hurt if you struggle or lose. Even if we rush for 300 yards in the game, it doesn't mean we will have fixed our running game when we play UGA, USCe, and Ala down the road. I fully expect our QB struggles to continue althought maybe our WRs will get open more.
So I wouldn't get my hopes up that a W against SA, if it in fact happens, will propel us toward bowl riches. We are too flawed a team this year to win 6 games and get to a bowl. Way too flawed. We need more horses before we will win the race and get a bowl.
Ummmm, What?
Being consistently ranked gives a team momentum? Maybe since that would mean they are consistently winning and competing with the top of the conference... but even that isn't true. "Momentum" is an emotional measure that can be built in a number of ways.
This is an important game for the rest of the season. Oregon and UF exposed many things that have been worked on since. This is a lighter opponent that gives the players a better opportunity to put those improvements into practice.
This IS a real measuring stick of the coaching that has been done.
If they go out and struggle then well...
If they go out and execute then it will give them confidence heading into the tough stretch that's coming up.
Jones probably used UF to convince the team that they were just a few mistakes away from making that a really tight game or victory. They need to now follow that up with something very, very solid.
So was WKU....that didn't create much momentum
