I think Saturday will change things

If, they win some of those against good opponents, I would agree. We've gone to some bowl games in the past, only a few, that I wished they'd turned down. Depends on which bowl it is to me.

Isn't this the same attitude that Volnation bashed Bray for having after pouting, giving up, and throwing/blowing the Kentucky game a couple years ago?

They will get momentum back because they are playing an inferior team. You are a bit of a dreamer. Georgia has a lot of talent....I predict Georgia comes out on top 35-21.

That's a tighter score than I'm guessing it'll be.

And I think we'll finish out 6-6.

The reality is we don't have the horses and especially depth to compete with Georgia/Bama this year.

I think if this team wins November, we will definitely deserve a bowl game.

I'm not confident we can do that at this time though. It will be a great run for this team to do it.

If you talk to fans of other teams not wearing the Orange glasses, they do point out some really suspect decisions and events that have took place thus far when asked their opinion of the new coaching staff.

They've smacked me in the face and awakened me from an Orange Kool-Aid stupor. It's clear they are learning on the job what it means to be in Big Time Football.

However, unlike Dooley, Butch seems to be taking the challenge seriously; not making bad jokes and not Looking for Rommel. I still don't like an OJT coach on the TN sidelines, but right now, I can take the pain with Butch (did NOT feel the same way about Kiffin or Dooley).

I'm not sure what I think of the fullback rumors this week though.

On the one hand I think this is what they should have been doing with Austin Peay, and breaking in the "power spread" over time. On the other hand, after seeing the knee-jerk Peterman decision against Florida, I'm not sure this isn't in the same vein.

Numbers don't really mean squat in come cases. Quality does. If they beat 3 quality opponents, then my opinion changes somewhat.

Even if we won 8 games there would still be people on this board #%#*ing about guys not performing to their proper expectations

blowing out lowly south alabama will not be a good indicator about whether UT can beat uga.

I don't believe it.. I've heard two coaching staffs tell us they were going to be a power running team n then on 3rd or 4th n short they throw the freaking ball.. these spread guys go pass first but want to try n run it.. sooner or later vol nation will understand n look at the top 3 teams in sec n they have a power running game with an above avg qb that can pass when needed.. this stupid high school 4 play off we have seen so far will get us the worst record in the history of tn... we have to see either a more complicated off scheme or a better running formation.

Today we r predictable n look like a bad high school team.. totally embarrassing and I challenge anyone to say its only talent.... they can regroup n we will see

It's only talent . :)

A win against South Alabama is as big a victory as one against St. Mary's School for the Blind. It's a game that can't help UT but sure can hurt if you struggle or lose. Even if we rush for 300 yards in the game, it doesn't mean we will have fixed our running game when we play UGA, USCe, and Ala down the road. I fully expect our QB struggles to continue althought maybe our WRs will get open more.

So I wouldn't get my hopes up that a W against SA, if it in fact happens, will propel us toward bowl riches. We are too flawed a team this year to win 6 games and get to a bowl. Way too flawed. We need more horses before we will win the race and get a bowl.

This is an important game for the rest of the season. Oregon and UF exposed many things that have been worked on since. This is a lighter opponent that gives the players a better opportunity to put those improvements into practice.

This IS a real measuring stick of the coaching that has been done.

If they go out and struggle then well...

If they go out and execute then it will give them confidence heading into the tough stretch that's coming up.

Jones probably used UF to convince the team that they were just a few mistakes away from making that a really tight game or victory. They need to now follow that up with something very, very solid.

Until Tennessee is consistently ranked in the preseason they won't have much momentum going up against teams ranked like #2..

Ummmm, What?

Being consistently ranked gives a team momentum? Maybe since that would mean they are consistently winning and competing with the top of the conference... but even that isn't true. "Momentum" is an emotional measure that can be built in a number of ways.

This team doesn't deserve a bowl game at this time. Win out, yes.

Yes

We need to go back to the days when it took 8 games to get to a bowl

Its just ridiculous that a team that is 6-6 can get to a bowl.

It use to mean something when you got to a bowl.

Wrong... in almost every way you can be wrong.

This is a developmental game. It is an opportunity IF the team has been effectively coached up to put into practice the "corrections" that have been made and the development that has occurred.

UT gets a couple of these each year. BSU and Peterson get a whole schedule of them. They get to make incremental improvements without losing that enable them to pour everything into that one big game at the end.

You could call this a training wheels game. They come off again next week but execution doesn't have to be absolutely perfect this week for it to be effective.

Yes. Because being ranked means the team has been performing well in the past and obviously has the talent to actually win games against other ranked opponents. Thus the "momentum" from playing well in the past will theoretically carry over.

And until Tennessee can be consistently ranked I wouldn't expect them to be winning games against the likes of Alabama or Oregon. There was a time when we all would have put UT against ANY team outside of the SEC and expect to win..

Very well said and exactly right.

I expect to see the best version of the Vols in four years tomorrow.

So was WKU....that didn't create much momentum

If Tennessee is building a fundation to get better this game is important, every game is, if you've played at any level above HS you know every game is a chance to improve in some way. BTW this is the Tennessee form, sometimes I think Im reading on another teams form, dogging tennesee. If its a easy game, receivers (and other positions) can actually think " hey I have a chance to really work on my route running and my cuts this game and being more physical" when its an easy game, you actually have the time to think about improving small details of your play.
