I think Saturday will change things

So, unless they go 10 and 2 you will deny them a bowl bid

No. Wins over quality opponents is the route for bowl games, I think. Of course, you're going to pick up some cupcake games along the way. As I said before, way too many bowl games at this time. Many are participation games at this point.

Isn't this the same attitude that Volnation bashed Bray for having after pouting, giving up, and throwing/blowing the Kentucky game a couple years ago?

Don't know what that attitude was, so I can't answer one way or the other.

Even if we won 8 games there would still be people on this board #%#*ing about guys not performing to their proper expectations

I know. If some aren't performing to their potential level, it's on the coaches to some degree. They call the shots and put the players into position.

Yes

We need to go back to the days when it took 8 games to get to a bowl

Its just ridiculous that a team that is 6-6 can get to a bowl.

It use to mean something when you got to a bowl.

If you're being serious, Count, I agree. Successful season used to mean more than finishing 6-6, 7-6, etc.

What? So we should have to win 10 games to go to a bowl? If we beat everyone but Bama on our schedule which would include wins over 2 top ten teams we should not go to a bowl? Wow

If we win those games, they deserve a bowl bid. If we win the tomato can games and don't beat any contenders, then no, should not receive nor accept a bid.

I thought it was pretty clear. What quality wins do we have at this point?

You're asking what quality wins the third coach in five years has after four games into his first season? (I just wanna be sure I have this right.)

I'd agree that there are/were too many playoff games in the NFL. One reason I quit watching NFL many years ago.

Fair enough. At least ur argument is consistent. I, on the other hand, love watching the bowl games because you can watch teams you normally wouldn't and if you make a bowl, regardless of the bowl, it creates some excitement. Also gives me one more game to watch my team.

If they want a playoff, they should just modify the bcs to where the 4 bcs bowls are the quarter finals for an 8 team playoff. I don't want to see no march madness stuff but I still want to see the games I normally wouldn't

My honest opinion is that we will come out tomorrow fired up, beat the brakes off of South Alabama and everyone will start to feel good about ourselves again. Then Georgia will roll into town next Saturday and hang 40 on us in Neyland and everyone will feel deflated again!

This is an important game for the rest of the season. Oregon and UF exposed many things that have been worked on since. This is a lighter opponent that gives the players a better opportunity to put those improvements into practice.

This IS a real measuring stick of the coaching that has been done.

If they go out and struggle then well...

If they go out and execute then it will give them confidence heading into the tough stretch that's coming up.

Jones probably used UF to convince the team that they were just a few mistakes away from making that a really tight game or victory. They need to now follow that up with something very, very solid.

SJT, I had you pegged wrong. Very objective and on point post in my opinion.

My apologies.

That seems to happen a lot these days and it sucks!

Knowing the next game was against Oregon, there isn't a win we could get that would have created enough momentum for that game. Lame analogy.

Were you on here the week leading up to the Oregon game and even the morning of? Don't forget, UT had just picked up 7 TO's against the mighty Hilltoppers.

Half of this place was convinced UT could beat Oregon.

If I think something is wrong or bad... I say it. If I think something is correct or good... I say it.

Eventually, almost everyone here will greatly like and also hate my opinions...

I am not necessarily right all the time but I am honest about my opinions and why I hold them.

I expect us to improve every week. I think the season will come down to the last four weeks. I was really hoping we could go into that last four weeks with a 4 and 3 record at least. Regardless I hope we make a bowl game because it helps recruiting and gives the team a positive feeling going into the next season.

Really interested now in how many of the "We're Headed to a Bowl Game" sunshine pumpers feel about our record at the end of the season now.

Still feel a bowl game is easy to attain?

I think we will be closer to 4-8 than we will be to a bowl game.

Easy? No.

Still in the realm of possible? Yes.

We talked this week about certain teams coming in overconfident to games. Take Florida for an example. I personally believe they went into our game overconfident and got a rude awakening after that first pick we made against Driskel. And furthermore when the ferocity of our team showed out and their players started leaving the field limping. Looking back, we stuck with Florida with a top 5 defense and were only down by 14 at the game's end.

Could it be our team went in overconfident to this game? Especially after sitting on an almost 20 point lead at halftime when most thought this game was in the bag? I know the coach said "we don't look ahead" and all that, but does it translate into what the players are thinking?

I still believe a seven win season is possible. Just depends on how deep these kids reach down inside themselves and how bad they really want it.

You wouldn't have known that by reading threads here; there a ton of people not only saying we had a good shot at an upset but basically yelling at anyone who didn't agree.

Only after the beatdown did people change their tune.

Where, pray tell, can you see four more wins for this offense?

Forget about the "team" for a moment...this offense will have to score points to win, and to keep the pressure off of a slow, thin defense with no pass rush. So it comes down to being able to score enough points to win.

Honestly, with Worley, I can only see one more game we "should" win. Toss that one in with five all-but-guaranteed losses, and a "maybe" game.

It is what it is.

Go Vols.
