I think this is Pat's last game

We are going to have a relatively weak team next year--and top recruits are already bailing on the program. The top '13 recruit, who had been a UT commit, apparently has dropped us. We won't get ANY of the top recruits next year unless there is a coaching change. PS would not accomplish anything by staying--except to hurt the program. PS should retire and let the university honor her at the first home game next year--and blow the roof off the basketball stadium. She can take an honorary position and pitch in with a chat with visiting recruits, if she wishes, hang around practice, whatever. But to officially coach another year would be extremely unwise.

It's not about what YOU like. You and your ilk in the fanbase need to realize this disease IS the cause for the downfall of the program. Pat just didn't get this disease last summer when she was diagnosed with it. She's had it for several years and it's likely it is the catalyst in the drop-off of the program. In all honesty, if it weren't for Candace Parker, the symptoms would have been noticable sooner. The first thing forgotten are details. Pat was always a stickler for details which is WHY this program rose above all others. Those closest to her BETTER be encouraging her to retire right now because in her right mind, it's what she would do. Those like you are selfish wanting her to remain on the sidelines where she will lose her dignity.

One important fact you should realize: this the University of Tennessee's basketball program. This isn't the University of Pat Summitt's program

Nice Day

Selfish eh? Like you even know me beyond one post...words on a screen. You know its the main problem with the internet, to assume the meaning of one person's words without other signifers such as facial response, body language, and emotional tone. ALL such things are practically 80+% of effective communication. 20% of what a person actually says to you is understood through the words alone, while that other 80% is all those non-verbal cues....

So you just go on wit yo bad self, thinkin I'm selfish.

LOL...(actually I probably am selfish. I'd run this program into the ground for Pat Summit to have one more year of joy in her life, if thats what coaching achieved for her.)

In their head, any rational fan agrees. In their hearts, many can't bring themselves to face the truth of the situation. Many on this board have convinced themselves that addressing Pat's current capability is somehow disloyal or disrespectful to her legacy.

I just hope her support group group does not overdose on the orange kool aid.

It wasn' the University of Neyland, it was't the University of Fulmer, it ain't the University of Summit. Hundreds of peoples livelihoods depend of the LV program. Run the program into the ground for one person! I do not agree at all with that moronic logic.

So....there was an actual coach named Neyland? Was that his last name? I obviously understood that most of the buildings I walk by to class are donated with the name of the family as their title, but never really thought about where Neyland stadium got its name...

Regardless...lets burn this motha into the ground for Pat!!!

I would try for Goesterkors (sp) at Duke and maybe Staley before Caldwell. We need a proven winner. Caldwell might be great because of her UT ties and more, but her coaching resume is thin--four years of head-coach experience. I think Caldwell can recruit, but we need that and coaching chops. If we don't fix the coaching situation soon, then Geno and Ct. will have more title banners than we do--and that is the LAST thing PS would want.

where have you been ? TexasSports.com - Official website of University of Texas Athletics - Texas Longhorns Goestenkors announces resignation as Women's Basketball head coach - TexasSports.com - Official website of University of Texas Athletics - Texas Longhorns

More importantly, how much will she do next year. That will be recruits number one concern.

Joe Pa didnt coach much his last 5 seasons - but was a recruiting magnet - thats why they kept him around - Bobby Bowden same thing only the FSU program went to crap anyway.

I would say go after whoever is the best. I think Michell at KY should be chosen because he has given the KY women a real team with much less talent. What could he do with the talent that TN has? I'm not saying he is the best but I think you listed the 3 best candidates. A heckuva lot better than what we got out of them this year. I would be ok with Caldwell or Peck too. Outside of those I don't know who else we would look at.

Didn't Peck bomb @ florida, or am I thinking of someone else?

Since 2004 PSU has had a total of 4 1st round picks. 3 years with no first rounders and 2005 no picks at all.

Not exactly a recruiting magnet. They kept him around because they did not have the guts to fire him.

Finally, he was old, not suffering from a terrible, progressive mental issue.

Carolyne pecks record was 72-75 at florida. Absolutely no way should she even be in the discussion as a potential replacement. I hope you guys were joking.

This is the best job in all of womens basketball, even better than any WNBA job (some might argue UConn)

You get the best to coach here, anything less would be a huge letdown.

A lot of people in the LV nation amaze me as Pat's situation evolves.

Same here. I dearly love and respect what Pat has done, but it's time to move on. I could see on more year, but don't think it would be in her, or the teams best interest. If she truly wants to coach another year, she deserves to do so, but again, wouldn't be beneficial to anyone (except to make her happy)

PSU did finish well with the (ghost) coach, but thats the Big 10 and then theres that damn Outback bowl win over Fulmer

I want Nikki Caldwell, but posting Peck's UF record with no mention of her NC at Purdue skews the argument.

Fighting words. Not the way to discuss a legend. I hope your other five posts were better.

Even "Legends" lose their edge - the truth is the Lady Vols have not been competitive for a long time and as long as they keep the same coaching staff (including Pat), nothing will change. Take a look at our football program - went from SEC title contender to losing to Kentucky. The truth hurts and turning the other way (or claiming the "Legend" status doesn't help. The Vols are still losing in all sports. :clapping::salute::yes:
