The ranking is based on current resume. IF USC beats three more ranked teams in a row and is a conference champion, they will jump UT. The same is possible, but somewhat less likely with Clemson. Their resume will improve by beating ranked opponent and winning their conference.
Unfortunately, UT’s resume is as good as it’s going to get, assuming wins against the Gamecocks and Commodores.
What’s really actually interesting is how much credit the committee is giving OSU and Michigan considering both their “signature” wins were against the same PSU. PSU and Illinois are the only other Big Ten teams currently ranked. OSU doesn’t play Illinois. Michigan has them this week. The PAC 12 had 5 teams in last weeks poll. The ACC had 4.
