I think we backed right into the playoffs..

The ranking is based on current resume. IF USC beats three more ranked teams in a row and is a conference champion, they will jump UT. The same is possible, but somewhat less likely with Clemson. Their resume will improve by beating ranked opponent and winning their conference.

Unfortunately, UT’s resume is as good as it’s going to get, assuming wins against the Gamecocks and Commodores.

What’s really actually interesting is how much credit the committee is giving OSU and Michigan considering both their “signature” wins were against the same PSU. PSU and Illinois are the only other Big Ten teams currently ranked. OSU doesn’t play Illinois. Michigan has them this week. The PAC 12 had 5 teams in last weeks poll. The ACC had 4.

A 2-loss team has never made the playoff and this year won't change that. Getting slaughtered and losing to a nobody has already eliminated them.
If TN is 5 and LSU is 6 in CFP ranking and LSU beats GA, you really don’t think they have a legitimate chance to jump us?

We do NOT want Michigan beating OSU. If that committee has OSU and UT both with a single loss, I have no doubt....zero...who that committee chooses. Nope. UGA and OSU keep winning. OSU blows out Michigan. Anyone beats TCU and for good measure, someone knocks off USC. We get those wishes answered and I like our chances.
👆This is the ticket to Peach Playoff Atl. Or Illinois win this week could works as well

that means they knocked off the #1 undefeated team and are SEC champions while we sat at home idle. So yeah they'd jump us

The loser of OSU and Michigan will drop to 5 and that is our ticket no matter who else wins out... We will play Georgia on a turf field where I think our receivers will find much better footing and Dylan Sampson is coming along at the right time... It's almost like we threw that game to avoid a potential late loss in Atlanta... A loss that late in the Season and there is no chance we make it.... Since we were number 1...
Isn't it interesting that none of the Talking Heads even mention the LOSER of Ohio St./Michigan is out of the playoffs?

I disagree, the committee isn’t going to drop a team down when/if they continue to win. The fact Tn is at 5, they won’t go lower if winning. If Ohio state or Michigan lose(one will), they’ve shown they don’t have confidence in Mich already seeing as they weren’t in the top 4 before TN lost, so if they lose to Ohio state, they aren’t going to stay above TN. If Ohio state loses, then they surely should drop to atleast 5, putting TN back in. Hell TN was 1, got beat by 3 and dropped to 5, can only expect the same if any of them lose, especially Mich or TCU.
I’m still in the camp that believes if Tn wins out they are set. TCU or Mich are the likely team not getting in, maybe both if they both lose.

All this talk about a one lose PAC or AAC is garbage. They clearly aren’t taking titles into account, and are clearly looking at strength of schedule. While it may get brought up, it’s not going into the decision making like many here try to make it. Again, they’d have to already place those teams ahead of TN to justify moving them ahead of a team they already thought was 1, and now 5. If they thought that before then they should have already been there, and when TN lost the committee had the perfect opportunity to do that and it be justified, or atleast have some what of a reasoning behind the decision.

Your logic may be valid-for regular season.

In week 13 though, we are gonna be at home. Absolutely no way to improve our lot other than hoping the balls bounce our way

A few teams below us will be playing. A very, very impressive showing and they can jump an idle team.

It happens routinely.

Shore got our Heisman candidate beat to hell just to throw a game.
Lol

We won't get in unless everybody beats everybody else and UGA wins the SEC. We already played UGA, and just like last year with Cincy getting in ( I know, bad example) but UGA would curb stomp us again, so the committee will pick someone else to get curb stomped cause anybody left that plays UGA will get curb stomped. I say that cause they played like an entitled bunch of kids until we got ranked #1 the week we were playing them. They've been waiting for the playoffs to show how good they really are.
Almost as silly as the thread title.

Backed in? A loss is a loss. If we don’t make it, then someone else backed in because we lost. I’ve always hated that phrase. A loss in September should be the same as any other month

Maybe I'm deranged, but I sincerely hope we get in, and get OSU or TCU for our first game. Simply because we'd beat seven shades of sh*t out of either, get the momentum from that win, and you can't tell me that UT/UGA II in Los Angeles for all the marbles wouldn't set records for the most-watched television show of all time. That's absolutely a license to print money.

Upset Saturdays of 98 and 01 were crazy it can happen
****** Colorado team destroyed nebraska in 01

And if Tennessee doesn't get in for some of the logical reasons posted I don't want to hear a bunch of whining. " They hate us"
One loss with and SEC championship you're in.
One loss and no championship you're on thin ice.

Agreed but that's if UGA loses to LSU but what I'm saying is we avoided a possible 2001 mishap or repeat against LSU.. One of Ohio State and Michigan have to lose...

Why is UGA a lock even if they lose the SECCG??

they problem I have with all of this speculation of LSU or USC jumping TN... we have ONLY lost to the now #1 ranked team in the country. Who can say that who has 1 loss... or in LSU's case who we stomped in their backyard... 2.
We have a better resume than anyone with 1 loss, I don't care how the schedule of the teams we played happened, no one can top that without being undefeated (and even some of them are questionably better)
