I think we can get Bob Stoops

I want Gruden just as bad as anyone but there is a big chance he doesn't come so I would be happy with a guy like Stoops. They even said he has the 2nd highest winning percentage at home since 1999. I don't know his exact winning percentage but he is obviously a winner and he destroyed Texas earlier this year. Behind him I would like Gundy, Patterson and then I start to think. With Mora, Strong, Fisher and the other names we start to get into big risks.

If the rumors are true that alot of the isssues with a possible Gruden hire is his "demands for control", I would love to see Hart secure interest from Stoops at say 4.75 million a year for 6 years just to see how Gruden reacts to it. Of course, I don't really care who is hired. I just wish they would get it done so recruits and returning players know what 2013 has in store for them.

My fear with negotiating with Stoops is that all we will get is a nice fat pay raise for him from OU.

So long as we make a serious offer to any top coach (Gruden, Stoops, Gundy, etc) we're looking at I'm happy. If all it does is get Stoops a raise at OU oh well. I just don't want the AD to leave any stone unturned. We can't afford to be complacent in the search for a new head coach.

With having 2-3 loses a year the last few years, I doubt Stoops could use a UT offer to force a pay raise. He is already one of the top paid coaches in the country. At some point, if your not winning titles, the raises will have to stop. We'll see how it plays out. I hope the rumors are true that he is tired of Oklahoma and is looking for a fresh start somewhere else. I think he would be a good option at 4.75 million a year for 6 years. 3.75 million for a staff and I would bet there are alot of top assistants that would love to work for Bob.

That conference is pretty shaky too. Maybe he wants to come coach in the SEC.

Bob would be a safer hire than Gruden in a lot of ways. I'd take Bob in a heartbeat..

+1

I like the idea of having strong recruiting ties to Texas and Oklahoma as well. I would think Stoops would be just as big of a rockstar hire as Gruden if not more so.

Josh Heupel and the other "Co OC" together make 660,000/year. We pay more than that currently for Chaney. Their DC Mike Stoops makes 600,000 a year. We pay Sal 800,000. I would try and see if Bob would consider bringing Brent Venables here with him from Clemson. I think he is a better DC than his brother is. All these guys could see a very nice raise with a staff budget of 3.75 million. Keep Pittman and Graham and we would have a great foundation IMO.

In all of this madness, one fact remains - this hire has to be top-notch, 100%, Grade A; the proverbial home-run. The list of home-run coaches out there is pretty short and in my opinion Stoops is on it. I'd prefer Gruden because I think he has more immediate jumpstart potential, but I'd take Stoops and be happy about it.

Agreed, coaching matters. See what Meyer has done at Ohio State.

All signs point to Hart has the backing to make a homerun hire.
