I want Riley Ferguson

So explain why Ferguson was running 2 nd team on the depth chart before he was injured and would be playing instead of Dobbs had he Not been injured before the Bama game.

There's literally never been a point this season at which he has been listed 2nd on an official depth chart unless it was as a co-2nd with Dobbs.

Why did he travel to Gainesville and Dobbs stayed home? Several people, including some very close to the program have said Ferguson is the future, not Dobbs.

I can't believe that anybody would want to burn Ferguson's red-shirt now with one game left. He should be given every opportunity to start - next year. How dumb can you get wasting his time for one game this year. You need to put away the 'shine now.

I guess Vestel and east Knoxville finally got computers in their libraries....

So what do you mean by this ? You are talking about two of the poorest areas of Knoxville. Vestal is mostly White and East Knoxville Black. I don't think being underprivileged has any thing to do with this idiotic thread.

Can you quote any official sources besides vague speculation from VQ employees that have actually said this?

No, let everyone battle it out in the Spring.
Nooooooo!!!!
I am so over the "battle it out in the spring!!"
Not to mention butch can't man up and name the best one ." They're all quilt good .. " really ?? They all look equally bad to me. Worley is an sec level backup at best. Why not either go all out Riley or use the recruiting karma and get us a freakinh qb that can throw better than 16 yards total offense going into the last series of the game !!??? That in itself just piles on to the many reasons we have become a laughing stock...:(. Just sayin'...

He was not and he would not.

The week of the South Carolina game Ferguson worked more with the offense because they had Dobbs running the scout team to mimic the mobility of Connor Shaw. A week before in Georgia prep, Dobbs worked with the offense and Ferguson ran the scout offense to mimic Murray.

Ferguson was injured running the scout team during Alabama week, Dobbs was the #2 at that point.

You have to remember that the media had not witnessed team drills other than special teams since Oregon week. Any info that was out there on who was running with what team was carefully leaked out by the staff.

Throughout summer and fall camp, people put way too much stock in what players were working with what players in drills. This staff does not run drills in practice based on what string you are. They let everybody work with everybody to build a comfort level. The players worked together by depth chart in the team periods closed to the media.

Because Dobbs had run the scout team Oregon and Florida weeks to mimic the mobility of their respective QBs while Ferguson had stayed with the third string offense and had run the UT gameplan that week. When you can only take three QBs, you can't really afford to take the guy that had not run the gameplan throughout the week.

I'm sure your next question is why is the next guy in line running the scout team? Because at that point, Dobbs and Ferguson were battling for #3, with the plan being to redshirt both at all costs. They went back and forth on running the scout team based on what type of QB the offense would be facing.

We all want to see what Riley can do, but seriously losing a year of eligibility on a freshman QB for the last game of a lost season? I can't believe that is what you seriously want. Knee jerk reaction perhaps to a very disappointing season?

These should probably be stickied, if only to reduce the number of meltdown freshman backup QB savioritis threads.

This should end all the dumb conspiracy theories about RF being ahead and Dobbs being fourth. No true freshman qb would look good playing the D's Dobbs did. He will be fine. Starting these last few games will give him a head start for next year when he can really break out.

To me it would be worth burning the redshirt if it means finding a proven leader so this team can have something to feel good about heading into the off season. It would be big for recruits as well and Ferguson could .be getting first team snaps in the .offseason getting prepared for next year. We need to solve thus qb mess now not later!!!! And Dobbs and Peterman are both busts....we are spinning our wheels with both of them......I don't want to wait the entire off season to know if we actually have a competent qb or not....its torture to even think about....Butch owes us as fans to show us something to be hopeful about instead of plodding the worst looking young qb to ever get any meaningful playing time at UT. Even Crompton and Worely both looked better as true freshman than Dobbs. I am this close to turning in Butch.....I want to.see what Riley can do...under heck with the whole red****t thing....we need hope now!!!!! You can bring .in all the recruits you like, but .it won't matter without a decent qb.

You haven't even seen him throw a ball damn, another baseless comment from our handicapped fanbase!!! I remember the cry for Peterman, lmfao!!! Just support who they put out there, its that simple Einstein! GOVOLS

Ferg is probably the answer... just not this year

No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Burn his red shirt for the last game just because we can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who cares about recruiting or anything else?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just burn it since we know far more than the coach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's flat out damaging to this teams physche not having an answer at qb right now....you are wrong, not me!!!!!!!

And Ferguson can't establish that leadership during the offseason? Burning a redshirt on a valuable player in a meangingless game when he could be saved and used an additional season is about as ridiculous as you can get.

Worley started... struggled.

Peterman started.... collapsed.

Dobbs started.... struggled even worse.

At some point... you have to wonder if the problems don't go back further than the guy taking the snaps... say the OC/QB coach?

The ONLY QB who has looked even remotely ready to perform at an SEC level... was tutored by Chaney for two years.

Good point. Although I'm not a Chaney fan.
