I want Riley Ferguson

Worley started... struggled.

Peterman started.... collapsed.

Dobbs started.... struggled even worse.

At some point... you have to wonder if the problems don't go back further than the guy taking the snaps... say the OC/QB coach?

The ONLY QB who has looked even remotely ready to perform at an SEC level... was tutored by Chaney for two years.

Very rarely does a true freshman QB ever come in and set the woods on fire. Dobbs may be fine, however, he hasn't shown much other than decent mobility in the games he has played. Ferguson is still the unknown, other than in the open scrimmage. Spring practice should be exciting.

People seem to really forget how bad Manning looked at times as a freshman. Sure there were flashes of greatness, but there was a lot of looking lost.

What I hate most for Dobbs is that he doesn't get the benefit of bowl practice. Manning always said the most improvement he made was between the end of the season in 94 and the Gator Bowl when he lit up VT.

I would add that Worley looked to be finally coming together when he got injured. It does take time for a QB to get in sync with the receivers. And Butch didn't do them any favors by keeping the QB comp open until almost the first game. I know he's the coach and all, but he needs to set a QB during the springtime and stick with it until there is no other choice, by either game performance or injury.

Peterman was a disaster, yes.

Dobbs...gets tossed into the lion's den against three top 10 teams in a row. Don't care who you are, that's going to smack your confidence around. I'm wondering how he will react this off season.

And wondering if we need another assistant, specifically a QB coach.

Love the avatar by the way. "Fireballs from his eyes and bolts of lightning from his arse." The thing that concerns me most about Dobbs is he looked better in the Alabama game and it seems like his confidence has eroded game by game or is it brick by brick.

Thanks.

Thing I've seen about Dobbs and you are correct that he appears to have regressed. If it's a confidence thing, part of that is on him and part is on the coaches. Telling a 18 year old kid in the middle of a game not to throw is a huge destroyer of confidence, so that one's on the coach. Getting thrown into the fire and learning on the job? Kind of on him and the mental aspect of the game. But I couldn't possibly imagine how I might react if I was in his situation other than crapping my pants if I got tossed into a game with the #1 team in the nation.

I think Dobbs can be a solid QB as long as the coaching staff gets his confidence levels back up where they should be for an SEC caliber QB as well as working him with reps as much as they can. Another year to mature and get more comfortable with the team members could bode well for the young man's future.

Full retard is letting Dobbs play one more down as the UT qb....kid is scared and timid out there and it has started to become our teams identity including the coaching staffs.

IMO they just haven't handled him very well. If a coach is wired and stressed out about a game then a smart guy like Dobbs will empathize. If they're smart, with this Kentucky game, they need to take the weight off of him and just let him play. He's going to play so do everything you can to help him.

The only thing failing right now is our football team! Some of you just can't handle the truth.....Dobbs is terrible...and it was a major mistake by Butch AKA Mr. Conservative, of not playing Riley from the get go. Our future is bleak with either Worely or Dobbs....should have been playing Riley and Dobbs from the get go to settle.on who the future is early in, .obviously not Dobbs, and that way we probably have a better overall season and we have at least a leader and an identity heading into year 2. But no, our staff seems to coach scared and not to lose in every aspect imaginable. Now we have to to to through a stupid qb battle next year and the offseason and because of Dobbs and Worely's game experience I wouldn't be completely shocked to see Riley not get a legit chance in an actual game...yes, my faith in thus staff is waning.

I want Ferguson as bad as anybody but with his injury it would have been stupid to have played him! I think he is the starter next year and qb will not be our weakness!,,

I was talking about from the beginning against Austin Peay just like we did with Ainge and Schaeffer and let the leader emerge, which most likely would have been Riley.

Not Rileys year...bummed about no bowl but looking forward to future winning seasons...starting with team 118 even without a seasoned o line

Nothing anyone can say. You have already talked yourself into depression.

To me it would be worth burning the redshirt if it means finding a proven leader so this team can have something to feel good about heading into the off season. It would be big for recruits as well and Ferguson could .be getting first team snaps in the .offseason getting prepared for next year. We need to solve thus qb mess now not later!!!! And Dobbs and Peterman are both busts....we are spinning our wheels with both of them......I don't want to wait the entire off season to know if we actually have a competent qb or not....its torture to even think about....Butch owes us as fans to show us something to be hopeful about instead of plodding the worst looking young qb to ever get any meaningful playing time at UT. Even Crompton and Worely both looked better as true freshman than Dobbs. I am this close to turning in Butch.....I want to.see what Riley can do...under heck with the whole red****t thing....we need hope now!!!!! You can bring .in all the recruits you like, but .it won't matter without a decent qb.

So you would burn a redshirt for one game...against...Kentucky? You're a god**** genius. I like your style, Crunchi gets it.

Here's my question for you, then. What have you seen from Ferguson that tells you he's any better than what we've seen from Dobbs/Peterman/Worley? How many practices have you seen? Because Butch and the staff watch practice every day and they really seem to disagree with you.

There is zero chance that we have a better record if we had gone with either of the true freshmen from the start. Zero.

There is every chance in the world that we might possibly have won one more game if we had gone with Ferguson from the start. It's also just as likely that we could have lost another game or two. You have no idea what you are talking about. I get so tired of you chiming in on every freakin thread like you are some kind of god or something. I seriously steer clear of this board due to jocksniffers like you. You are exactly the type of self-proclaimed insider wannabee know-it-all that ruined volchat.

Are you suggesting the we should burn Ferguson 's redshirt just so he could play against ky? Holy $hit op. You win the prize...

It would be idiotic to burn Ferguson's redshirt.

I just don't like self-righteous self-promoters making proclamations as if they just came down from Mount Sinai. How the hell could Deerpark possibly know for a fact that there is no possible way that we could have won even one more game with Ferguson under center? He couldn't. He just disagrees with everybody so he can pretend like he is gifted with a precious knowledge ill-suited for the unwashed masses.

What have you seen out of Ferguson that suggests that? How many passes have you seen him throw?

You steer clear of message boards because of people that present facts and reasonable arguments rather than idle and misguided speculation? Sounds legit.
