I want Riley Ferguson

It would be idiotic to burn Ferguson's redshirt.

I just don't like self-righteous self-promoters making proclamations as if they just came down from Mount Sinai. How the hell could Deerpark possibly know for a fact that there is no possible way that we could have won even one more game with Ferguson under center? He couldn't. He just disagrees with everybody so he can pretend like he is gifted with a precious knowledge ill-suited for the unwashed masses.

Seems like most of the people in this thread agreed with me so...:good!:

Just look at Ferguson's offer list. Look at what Jones said about him when he was healthy. Look at what was said about him before his injury at the elite 11 camp. We need this kid in the program for the next four years. His dad said point blank he would prefer him to redshirt on the Ainge show a few months ago but that Riley, being a kid, just wanted to play.

I think we may look back upon Riley's injury as a blessing in disguise before it's all said and done. More than any of the other quarterbacks, he appears to need a year at the training table and in the weight room. His dad said every time he talks to him he is drinking muscle milk and has been working out. My bet is his physicality will be much improved in a year's time.

I was talking about from the beginning against Austin Peay just like we did with Ainge and Schaeffer and let the leader emerge, which most likely would have been Riley.

The problem is Crunch we can't change the past. What is done is done. You can't burn the kid's redshirt for one game even if you know in fact he is a better quarterback unless you could guarantee the win and you can't. I would burn his redshirt for a guaranteed win but I'd have to make a deal with the devil and I'd rather not do that.

The win would not be worth burning the red shirt it is what it is another Year without a bowl game! ferguson will get to grow with the good class we got coming in and in 2015 the climb up will start!! Assuming the oc gets his head out of his ass or we upgrade!!!!

You kidding me? A loss to Kentucky versus one kid's redshirt? I'm talking a guaranteed win? How many things to avoid: first 4-8 season, first loss to Vandy and Kentucky the same year, the season spirals down into the abyss and how many recruits jump ship? If we had a guaranteed chance to end the season on a good note? If the kid really is that good so that its worth saving his redshirt then he probably will only be here 2 more years max anyway-much less four more years.

Lol...does not matter what we think they will not burn his red shirt!!

I know that but just posited a hypothetical. That is one of the things that message boards are for. Maybe we need to ask the Volnation keepers to start a "Sunshine Pumpers" board and all us realists will stay away and you can go to a place where you'll be happy all the time.

P.S.-Must be tough for you being a fan of VOLS, Braves, and Cowboys the last few years?.... gloom, despair, and agony on me.

Trust me I am not happy I have seen where some said JD was way ahead of RF not what I heard or think they have the same number of tds 0 and Riley hasn't took a snap! Not saying dobbs may not be a stud but as of now he does not have the IT factor that Peyton or even C. clausen! Jmo

This is an excellent point. According to Riley's father, "when he got there on June 12th or 13th he was 173 and he gained 20 pounds by mid-August. The first game he had gained 20 pounds, but they’re feeding him about 5500 calories a day. That’ll do it.”

(On Riley’s weight)

“I think him and Dobbs are about the same weight. He really gained a lot of weight. Every time I talk to him he says he’s got two shakes in his hand with 3 scoops of Muscle Milk in each one of them. I guess they’re force-feeding him right now" (Riley Ferguson - Tennessee Sports Radio).

When he first arrived at UT, Riley Ferguson was desperately in need of some weight on his bones.

That is a good point. My point is if he is that good then we won't have him four more years. But I do agree we shouldn't burn his red shirt and think about it if Coach Jones did burn his redshirt and we lost, that would really smack of desperation. Volnation would be howling at the moon.

Not to thread highjack but he is probably the best corner to ever play the game. Why be mad?

He was one of those guys who was a cancer on any team he played on. Very similar to Kelly Washington for the Vols. It wasn't long after his signing that the Cowboys death spiral began.

It would be so sweet to watch Ferguson drop 300 yards 3 tds against Kentucky...admit it, you would be excited about the offseason...instead we will likely see Dobbs toss 3 more pics in a neck in neck derp fest.

It would be nice. How can you guarantee that would happen? And, then to know we'd have him for 3 more years. Talk about an optimistic ending. But it is just a pipe dream.

Butch did everything in his power to avoid burning either Josh's or Riley's redshirts but, alas, the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. How often do three of four scholarship quarterbacks sustain injuries that force them to miss significant portions of the season?

Sometimes go awry for most but often for us.

If Riley Is really good his redshirt won't matter because he will be gone just like Bray was...however...losing to Kentucky with Dobbs...you better believe it will hurt A LOT

I remember when Coach Dooley burned Worleys red shirt in the Bama game and everyone freaked. Not such a big deal now.

Imo you play the best you have. If Ferg is the best we have then he should play Vs. KYgel
