About how ANY team in the country has a tougher schedule than UT. As far as I have seen, no one has us as #1 on their SoS list, some actually have us surprisingly low, and I listened to ESPN blabber on today about how Florida may have the toughest schedule in the country.

Using final rankings of last year, we play 4 of the Top 7 teams from the 2013 season. The lowest ranked of those is Bama at 7. We play #6 Oklahoma on their own turf. We play a 9-win Utah State team, we play an Arkansas State team that's 28-11 in their last 3 seasons.

We play Georgia, who spent the first half of last season in the Top 10 and the latter half in the Top 25. We play Ole Miss (who has been picked by several sites to be a contender in the west) on their own field, and a Vanderbilt team that is coming off a 9-4 season in Nashville on our other home field.

Can anyone find a team with a tougher schedule?

It's unfortunate, but due to our current state of affairs, we weaken our opponents strength of schedule.

probably toughest schedule, but Arkansas does play 7 ranked teams (UT 6) and certainly hurts all their SoS too. I generally ignore conference games because those are supposed to all be roughly equal. When you look OOC games, Arkansas toughest is Texas Tech, Vol's is OU. NO COMPARISON there.

EDIT: After really looking at the Razorbacks schedule, i don't know how their fans can be excited for the coming year. With having Northern Illinois on there and with Texas Tech being better than last year, it's possible they could go 1-11 this year. Most likely 2-10 though. #NotJoking

Maybe because FL always plays FSU in a non-conference game every year. FL plays both Bama and LSU in the West this season. FL does have a couple of cupcakes like every team does.

FSU # 1
Bama # 2
LSU top 15 team.....

In UFs defense, they play FSU out if conf. That's a tough game.

True but that's not a far cry from us playing Oklahoma. And they have Eastern Mich, 1-11 Idaho, and Eastern KY for their other OOC. Also for cross-division they have LSU and Bama where we have Ole Miss and Bama. Pretty equal.

They may be the closest but I still think we have the toughest schedule.

Florida has a tougher schedule because:

1. We are on it.

2. FSU
3. BAMA and LSU vs our BAMA and Mississippi

I spelled out Mississippi because I like to put my education to use now and then.

Yup, USU puts us just ahead of them

Florida has a more difficult schedule than us IMO. Their LSU and Florida State > Our OleMiss and Oklahoma

Its kind of like recruiting rankings, team a has #3 and team b has #5 while team c is number 3 in another poll.. To think that these "writers" actually look at every team on every schedule and truly know is to fall for the hype... Vols schedule is tough. So are 15 other schools. Playing the best only makes you better, eventually. Its just that if there was ever a time for 4 ooc cupcakes so Tenn could try to win 2 or 3 SEC games to make a bowl game, (AKA The Vandy method) this would be the year. But it is what it is so play em and fight like he]]

Ole Miss will be better than LSU this year.

But my argument was based on last seasons final rankings so I know that's a moot point right now.

Pre-season schedule ratings will change drastically after the season is over. Last year Auburn and Mizzou weren't rated very high early, we all know what happened at the end of the year.

Five out of the final ten toughest schedules last year were in the SEC. If you factor in bowl games then number would increase.

Actually, it probably isn't a bad idea to play as weak a schedule as possible if you belong to a major conference, and hope that you are "in the hunt" in late November. A win over Alabama and Georgia will trump wins verse Austin Peay, Presbyterian, Northern South Carolina Tech, and East West Virginia State. Michigan and Ohio State made a living out of playing 2 hard games a year spaced 4 games apart for years!

UT always plays a tough schedule and it gets magnified when the team isn't very good. People forget that UF plays FSU because they play every year. You could put UT's or UF's schedule up against any team in the country.
