I Want...

It is way too soon for this talk IMO. If games like Temple and Kansas become the rule rather than the exception then maybe Pearl gets fired, but I don't see that happening within two years. This isn't even a bad season. Yet...

Looking at hat's post time, I think he might have been a little buzzed.

Buzzed, pissed and disappointed no doubt. He is one of the best EF Hutton's on the board and this was a little premature and out of character for him. With only 1/3 of the season gone I did not expect this and I am not saying he is wrong but we will have to move almost 160 degrees for this to be a topic.

I hate to sound like a Fulmerite, but let's give this team a little more time before shoving Bruce out the door. Even a Sweet Sixteen with the youth on this team would be pretty good. I think it's obvious (and has to be because Bert said it postgame) that there are some guys on this team (Hopson) that simply cannot play defense at all. I just don't think his offense is good enough to leave him out there to give the other team free points. Until those players can guard someone, they need to ride the pine.

some more people to try and tell me that Bruce Pearl can carry Bill Self's bags as a coach. You're seeing the beginning of the end. Pearl will be done within 2 years.

I'll analyze the first sentence next season in Knoxville. The second sentence is quite pessimistic at this point. The third sentence is totally outlandish.

I'm not trying to say Bruce is as good as Self; certainly, Self is the far more accomplished coach, but perhaps Bruce will prove he can at least carry his bags in the return game.

I am irritated by the bad defense too, but I think it's way too early to talk about pulling the plug.

agree in theory, but I'm not sure we could put 5 guys on the floor right now who are at least semi-competent defenders. It's not as if guys like Maze or Hopson lack the physical tools to play defense; they just simply don't know how, at least not on a major college level. Time for Bruce to coach 'em up.

Anyone who wants to wager that Bruce Pearl will be the coach in the '10-'11 season is welcome. Just wait and see. Things are going to get ugly on a number of fronts. It doesn't make me happy, but it is reality.

This is a wins and losses issue only...or more?

....and Memphis was going to shank us by 25 last year...no questions asked ....and we were all freakin stupid idiots to think otherwise. You absolutely attacked as morons anyone who was "ignorant" enough to think otherwise and degraded each unmercifully until you were proven OH SO WRONG by Pearls' Vols. I like your articles and respect your bball insight....USUALLY. However, in this, like last years Memphis game, and enough other times to cause a little circumspection, you are the Bobby Lauder (sp?) of the Vol fan board. Don't bother to smack back...I won't see it. I'm logging on rarely because of the constant BS attacks you and your spineless little lapdogs release on every fan that ventures a dissenting post. The two posts I viewed tonight remind me why so many of my friends and I utilize more reliable info sources.

So you think he'll last 1 more entire season, with these 'ugly' things going on?

Right because the pressure is on Pearl to keep our basketball tradition at a high level. Come on, Pearl has taken this program to heights unheard of and will stay here as long as he wants to.

one more thing, weak refs create skewed outcomes. Self should have been ejected in the first half and the refs should have gained control. What happened yesterday was a disgrace to the game. Streetball??? That's exactly what I saw allowed. Dirty coach...dirty players, and a fanbase that was not pumped and loving the game....they were rolling in the dirt like a dog does manure.....they get pretty worked up, but it's still gross. See ya....I'm out

It has very little to do with wins and losses.

Figures. Didn't see how your claim could make sense sitting at 9-3 right now and most likely being in the tournament again this year. Oh well, this sounds like bad news.

What is it? Is it something about some of the so-called shady characters he's bringing in? If that's the case, then the Tennessee Athletic Department are making a big mistake.
