If the The Rock can wear a ballerina's tutu in a movie and still 'get it', then for all I care Butch could have played the pan flute in high school and he would still get it today. Butch gets it.

The USC Trojans hire Butch Jones for it's next football coach.

Sure enough. I was born and raised in Pine Haven. I've lived in Jimtown my whole life, excepting a few years in Decatur,Al and Soddy,TN,till last month. My wife and I had to leave our beloved Tennessee because of legal reasons. I am currently in Indiana. I plan on moving ASAP. Yankeeland SUCKS! Are you from Fentress County? GO VOLS!

Bobby Bowden purportedly was a heck of a trombone player. Shaquile O'Neill played sax in school, Michael Jordan was a trumpet player. Samuel L. Jackson played horn and was drum major for his marching band. The list is long and amazing of big name celebs and athletes with formal instrumental music training.

The list goes on:
Spurrier tooted his own horn pretty well but only found success at the amateur level.
Fulmer played a washtub.
Majors played the jug.
Saban played the upright fiddle.
Meyer played sick.

"On old Jamestown's northern border, reared against the sky..."

When were you there? I was a Football Dragon 1980-83. Were you in the band when Dean Mayes was the director? That was an awesome band.

Pine Haven? My elementary alma mater. Wow. Small world.

I'm in Murfreesboro now. I played football with a guy named Webb. He was a senior when I was a freshman. I was one of four freshmen who got to play varsity and I remember being knocked silly by him several times in practice. Of course, I only weighed about 105 or so as a freshman. Coach Charlie Vaughn's last year as coach. I'm still afraid of that man. :eek:hmy:

I have a question for some band geeks maybe you can answer it, maybe not.

Was at Mardi Gras one year and had this drunk group of people near us(naturally). Everytime another band went by as soon as these guys saw the tuba players they'd yell out "TUUUUUUUUUBAAAAAA"! This is somewhat comical when you actually hear a large group of people yell it. Is there some meaning to this or is this just an isolated incident?

"ones that cant do teach"

I personally don't care if he ever played a down of football in his life. If he can teach, motivate and manage the game is the only things that are important. Well, of course, that they lead to W's.

I have a friend who sucks at golf, but he is a great teacher and his son is one of the top amateur golfers in the area. You don't have to be a great player to be a great teacher.
