I will give Martin this "we are in much better shape going into SEC play"

I missed NC State so I have no idea what happened. But clearly, they are better than we thought.

You missed possibly the worst game of the Martin era then. Congrats. I wish I had missed myself. It's the game that caused me to withdraw my unconditional support of him as coach. By unconditional support, I mean supporting him and his tenure in spite of the mounting evidence that he can't hack it, and actually considering other candidates who may take his place without a turnaround in results and philosophy.

I support the team, and the last four games are winning me back into his corner because I think he honestly made some changes resulting from that loss that have played out over the last four games.

Last night was much more entertaining, I can't understand why Cuonzo doesn't play more to the Vols strengths. I feel we would be much more effective in a faster paced, up-tempo game, especially the way Josh and Jordy can penetrate. Their wing span is tremendous! I also think Stokes would show more offensive improvement in a transition game. JMO!

I like bringing stokes outside and letting him break his man down too. Not all the time of course, but it keeps the paint from being clogged when other guys penetrate.

been saying he likes to get up and down the court and needs to face up and just clear everybody out in halfcourt offense. I think Jimmy Dykes mentioned that Stokes talked to him about what he likes to do and where he likes the ball. He's not a back to the basket player, especially without jump hooks.
He's also a one foot jumper. Some players can jump off one or both. Many can do one better or more comfy. I could dunk off two feet but couldn't touch the net off one. You see how he elevates on his one foot jump finishes vs gathering himself with 2 feet and struggling to get in the air. I bet his vertical is several inches higher off one than off two.

That's a drastic difference sparty. Jamming off 2 but not touching net off 1? Ouch.

no joke. Too much time for the d to catch up if you have to gather yourself Caused me to get the ball pinned a few times.
Dominique Wilkins was a favorite growing up. He could get probably a foot or so higher off 2 feet than one and I guess I imitated him growing up that formed my jumping. Was always jealous of the guys that could get that step on the defender and elevate while jumping off one foot and headed towards the rim, ala JP Prince, a left or right foot jumper, but seldom 2 feet.

I hear ya. I was the opposite. Never figured out how to jump off 2 feet until college and I got in a real weight program.

We will see what happens, but the way the Vols have played in the last few weeks has been really encouraging. I think wining on the road at UK or UF and finishing third in the SEC and the Vols are in the field with a decent seeding. IMHO

I think Kentucky better be ON their game when we visit Rupp. I think we are that good when we are on.

We are that good when we are on, the question is if we will be on or not though. If we play the same way against UK as we did LSU we will win.

2012-2013 8-4 heading into SEC play.

2013-2014 8-4(not including tusculum) heading into SEC play

Zero progress made

In fact our resume looked better this time a year ago.

No bad losses and one top 25 win.

If anything we have regressed

Our resume probably did since we beat a F4 team Wichita, but the loss to UV vs win this year helps. The total cluster F that was the Georgetown game last year still puzzles me. It ended like a girl's HS game, 37-36. The UVA game wasn't much better. Bottom line...they look better this year and the development of some of the players is more evident.

This. I'm not worried about the next two in terms of whether I think we can beat them. I'm worried about whether or not the team that lost to UTEP and NCSU makes an appearance again.

Uuuggghhhhh. How deflating is that loss? We seem to have ZERO homecourt advantage.

This was the type performance that I was afraid of when they had just about erased the doubters and turned the tide. Consistently inconsistent.

Yup me too. I wanted to see a road win, they did that and then some. I said final thing was take care of an inferior opponent at home, and for 20 minutes that looked good.

Starting off 3-0 in conference would have been huge. The season isn't over, but there's reason to not be as optimistic.

I'm just sick of spoiling big wins with inexcusable losses, especially at home. I can explain away losses to Xavier, Wichita St., and even UTEP, but losses at home to NCSU and aTm are just unexplainable.
