I will give Martin this "we are in much better shape going into SEC play"

ALL OF THE SUDDEN???? I have said this since the beginning the year. McRae, Maymon, Stokes, Barton, and Hubbs give Tennessee Elite 8 talent.

McRae - excellent scorer with a chance to get drafted after this season.

Maymon - undersized post player who is physically unable to perform at a high level.

Stokes - undersized post player who plays inconsistently. Obviously appeared to be a complete beast against HS competition but it appears he was fully grown at 17. Length kills his game.

Barton - transfer who couldn't start at Memphis

Hubbs - talented freshman who is wearing a shoulder harness and already missed a game due to this injury. we probably won't see him blossom this season unless he's a really quick healer.

No way in the world this is top 8 talent. Without McRae its not top 64 talent. Top 32 talent probably with a chance to go higher if they can reproduce their VA shooting.

To your credit you did say previous 2 years, not just last year:

2011-2012:
7-7
0 top 50 wins
RPI: 275

2012-2013:
8-4
1 too 50 win
RPI: 78

2012-2013:
8-4
2 top 50 wins
RPI: 54

So yes, you're dead on OP, clear progression as the RPI glaringly shows.

weird how sometimes you say RPI right now means nothing and then other times you use it as a crutch.

whatever fits your agenda

That's what the OP was saying though, he knew how to manipulate the RPI. We only had to win 18 games to get into the dance, verse this year needing 20+.

I understood the OP's statement to mean CBP via crafty scheduling made a weak team appear better via the RPI. To me scheduling only works if your team can produce W's. CPB scheduled with the idea of being a great program. CCM is scheduling down to the level of his team, much like the Fball program did under CDD like the buyout of NC.

This quote from the earlier CBP thread supports my opinion;

"It's going to need to be somebody that has the vision that Tennessee had," Pearl said. "Tennessee had a vision to try to get its men's basketball program to the level of its football program and where Pat Summitt had the women's basketball program. That was Tennessee's vision. They said, 'We're winning in everything else. We want to do it in men's basketball, too.' So that would be the job I'd want -- a job where somebody has that vision. It would almost need to be a school that's won a national championship in football or baseball. Somebody who's done it and wants to try to do it again in men's basketball. And I'm not saying I can win a national championship. I'm not saying that. I'm just saying it would need to be somebody who wants to try to do those things. Let's upgrade the facilities and schedule [national opponents] and engage the fans and be relevant. Just be relevant. That's what we did at Tennessee. I wanted Tennessee to matter to Kentucky fans. I wanted Tennessee to be a game Kentucky fans circled. We did that. And that's the kind of thing I would like to try to do again."

I don't necessarily agree with that. Last year's schedule was good- WSU, Xavier, and Memphis at home; UVA and Georgetown on the road; UMass and OSU at neutral sites. Very, very solid. However, there is balance in scheduling. Even if you are a great team, you cannot schedule all good teams, especially on the road. I thought the committee rewarded good scheduling, but they clearly did not when they put MTSU in over us. Even Kansas is finding that out this year. I agree with what you did say about scheduling for wins. If we had scheduled two top 200 RPI teams at home instead of Memphis and Georgetown, I believe we get in. So, this year, he dialed it back just a bit while still playing two solid road games, two decent home games, and two solid neutral games.

I read this thread earlier and siap. Do you think martin meant the players are in better physical shape? I didn't hear the quote.

We have been playing our best ball of the season over the past three games. I include Tusculum because we still played well and were efficient in spite of the potential to come out flat and struggle early, which we did not. We shot well, passed well, took good shots, and valued possessions. We have succeeded in those areas, as well as defensively over the last three games now. If we can keep it up, and Martin continues to allow them to dictate tempo and push the pace even a little, I think we are talented enough to win the necessary games to play for seeding come SEC tourney time.

I believe the Tusculum game will be our turning point.

No I meant CBP knew how to schedule so that we maximised the RPI. WE always seemed to be in the top 20 throughout the year.

Did Wichita State have the 4th best talent in the country last season?
Which rating system are we using?
