"I Wish We Had A ________ Near Me"

My wife is from Germantown and turned me on to the Commissary. I haven't been the same since. I have completely flipped from NC vinegar based BBQ to Memphis dry rub ribs and tomato base.

I went to Commissary about 3 months ago. It was awesome. I used to live near there, but I have moved away. I try to stop there when I am in Germantown.

I also really like Leonard's BBQ on Mt. Moriah and Mendenhall. Not as well known, but they have a good BBQ buffet and I love their spaghetti.

Grew up in Memphis, but have been marooned in Alabama for past 10 years. Commissary was by far my favorite BBQ. No one can touch their potato salad.

I also wish there was a Lenny's Sub Shop nearby.

Living here in the Tampa Bay area I have yet to find decent pizza.

Do you guys remember Stuckey's? We were pretty poor back then and didn't travel much but I remember Dad always stopped and bought us a pecan log....sugar overload! I wonder if there are still any around anywhere?

I remember them. There was one off 80 between Jackson and Nashville - if I recall correctly - where we would sometimes stop on the way to Knoxville.

There's one near Morristown at the 81/40 interchange and if I come home via Boone I pass a couple between Winston Salem and Boone.

Anybody remember that ice cream place that used to be at the corner of Middlebrook and Cedar Bluff? I used to love their black cherry ice cream...also did all the Friendly restaurants close?

That's Bruster's, it's still there and it's still a huge hit.

Oh cool...for some reason I thought they closed...I don't get down there as much as I used to..interesting Bruster's must own the Nathan's brand too...best hot dogs other than Sabrett's imo

I see a lot of people who mentioned Culvers. Here in Iowa, we have a lot of them. It is better than most of the other burger joints for fast food, but if you really want to eat a good burger, go to a local tavern in the Midwest- local raised beef or pork, which is way better than anything you will purchase in a store!

The guy who posted about being a long way from any restaurants, I hear you. The town I live in is 15 miles from the nearest commercialized place anyone has ever heard of, and the only option in that town is a Subway. I have to go 25 miles for even a McDonalds, and 50 miles for a large enough city to have anything beyond that. Oh well, I am willing to travel- leaving tomorrow afternoon to drive 12 hours to Knoxville so I can get my fix of what I wish we had around here- UT VOLS! I will also be driving the 8 hours when they play at Missouri- the closest they get to my area...

I've been to areas like that when I used to travel the country consulting...I would work in tiny towns and my expense reports would be Subway breakfast, lunch, and dinner :)

Not sure if any of you guys live close to a Tijuana Flats but I think they are a great place for Tex Mex. Specials are Tuesdays for Tacos and Thursdays for Burritos. They have this cool hot sauce bar that I haven't seen anywhere else.

Beer.

And by 'near' I mean within arm's length. Like on this end table right here.

And by 'wish' I mean now. Right now, please. Before the game starts. And several times again as the game plays out.

Thanks much. Chop-chop.
