I miss meat and threes - that could be misinterpreted in San Francisco. We have some really good Southern & Soul food restaurants, but not the old fashioned inexpensive meat and threes you find in the South.

I think they are about gone in the south too. My moms restaurant had the daily plate lunches we were near an industrial park and she would have it on the table when the factory folks called ahead

There were some great ones when I lived in Nashville...18 years ago.

Memphis had some good ones, don't know how many are still around. Though it looks Barksdale Cafe - one of may favorites - is still there.

Wish we had a Joe's Crab Shack here. The food isn't great, but I love when the servers dance. Just makes me feel happy. Texas Roadhouse (home of the crack steak which I'm addicted to) used to do that, but I haven't seen it in a long time.

I didn't know they danced at Joes, only place I ever saw sing or dance was Johnny Rockets....I do miss when the Sonics' folks wore roller skates

My wife is from Germantown and turned me on to the Commissary. I haven't been the same since. I have completely flipped from NC vinegar based BBQ to Memphis dry rub ribs and tomato base.

Commissary is legit. I lived in Cordova and my wife was in Germantown when we met.

I wish Pal's was nationwide, I wish I had better bbq and I wish I had a Moto's type Japanese restaurant.

However, all those just make trips home (like I am right meow) all the better.

But my heart never leaves the Smokies, so even though I live on the ocean, I'd trade it for the mountains.

I grew up in West TN so I never had Pal's before I met my first wife, who was from Kingsport.

Pal's is awesome.

I've not had In n Out, but I have had Whataburger a few times. Pal's is way better than Whataburger. Like not even close way better.

At the risk of being deported from TX, I agree.

Whataburger is fine, but it is not the end all be all that the locals make it out to be.

In -n -out has better burgers. Whataburger has more options. IMO
