I would rather be banned from NCAA tourney

I agree.

From watching what Martin is doing, its not going to turn around. And those of you who keep saying "its only December" gimmie a break. UT could have beaten Oakland, Charleston and Austin Peay IF THEY FED THE POST. Why in the world would you continue to jack up 3's every possession with 30 seconds still on the shot clock when you have a big man in the middle that could score against these inferior interiors. The 3 ball is always open, shoot that when you've already given your post players a couple of touches for a possibly easy bucket.

Why is Martin so set on running this "out of control fast paced" offense? I just dont understand it.

Hopefully, he changes his system and adapts to the strengths of this team.

According to his last presser:

Martin has said UT has been working at some zone defenses itself that it can occasionally throw at opponents as a change-up of sorts.

But Martin made it clear he's not about the change the identity he envisions for the program as it moves forward under his direction.

"It's a work in progress on both ends of the floor,'' he said. "We have the ability to score the ball, but I'd rather our identity be as a tough, hard-nosed, (man-to-man) defensive team.

"You make subtle adjustments here and there, but one thing about being an inexperienced team, you don't want to make wholesale changes...you stay consistent with what you're doing.''

And I thought Tatum was still in high school when Lofton, JuJuan, and Watson were our starting backcourt. Silly me.

FWIW, JaJuan wasn't a regular starter in 2006, if at all. He was the 6th man. By year-end, the starters were Watson/Lofton/Bradshaw/Patterson/Wingate.

I do think it's easier for a coach taking over a team that's been losing to come in, get their attention, and teach them how to win, than a coach taking over a program that's been winning for six years but doesn't have the roster to sustain it.

On one hand, it's always easier when you inherit a good roster. But, it's probably also easier to replace a bad coach than a good one.

Remember Bruce's pregame to the team before that UF home game in '06: "We've done enough losing. Let's do some winning."

Martin doesn't have that card to play.

Not that I am aware of. I guess Martin is setting himself up for a big turnaround for next season, because Tennessee is not going to win 10 games this year.

I know, I know it is Pearl's fault he can't coach.

Major LOLage going on right here.

Again, this is why you don't judge a coach 30% into his first season.

This thread is why I advise every member on here with a brain to not jump to conclusions.

Thanks for the bump. I needed a good laugh.

1000% agree with op. I have thought the same thing several times, however we are in the minority here and will be bashed many times. Oh and you must be a troll( sarcasm).

I would rather be banned from the NCAA tourney for a year, be on probation for 5 years and lose scholarships and keep bruce pearl, rather than be a witness to our formerly strong program dieing before our eyes.

We have no excitement in the games, no passion, no intensity. Were not getting any recruits, TBA is quiet, the student section is a joke, and were probably not gonna make the tourney anyway. Do you have any serious interest in the team? Do you remember how CBP endeared us? He bought Pizzas for the students, played an exciting brand of ball that got us to come see what the fuss was, hovered around campus high fiving students and teachers. He bled orange. We werent a middle of the conference team anymore. We beat teams like Texas, Florida, Kansas, Pittsburgh, Ohio State, Memphis, Kentucky and other power house schools. We were a top 25 team consistently and top 10 on a number of occassions. Never once missing the NCAA tourney.

All im saying is, I wish MH would have waited a couple of weeks and stand by the guy that made him his money. We should have taken the punishment from the NCAA, and went down swinging, playing like heck and be ready for when the NCAA tourney let us back. And I know many of you agreed with MH saying Bruce had to go, and you guys are (at least so far) Wrong. Without bruce, will we be a NCAA tourney team this year? Probably not. Next year? Borderline? Maybe?

I know you guys have friends that are UK, Florida, Vandy, and Bama fans. Ask them, does CCM scare you? With him at the helm, does tennessee make you nervous when you see them on the schedule? They will all say a resounding NO.

We gained nothing by letting Pearl go. We only lost everything.

So I ask you this, with the results you see now from the current team/staff. Would you have kept pearl if the NCAA banned the Vols for 2 years and probation for 4 years with 2 scholarship removed for 2 years?

Yes, because it would have kept the program alive and competitive.

Now that CCM has had a chance, how do you feel about the program? I myself am pretty impressed with the turnaround he has made. Looke like the players are buying in to his coaching and are working hard to win.

I'm very glad that the AD doesn't share your ludicrous opinion...

Despite the fact we have a chance to make the tourney?

That's pretty pitiful.

If we make the tourney, this would by far be a more impressive coaching job than Bruce ever did.
