Ideas for potential O/C and D/C for Gundy or Strong

Pittman, Graham need to be retained...all else need to move on. We need a clean slate at COORDINATORS and put these 3 dreadful years behind us.

I really like Chaney but there were more than a few times in games where EVERYONE was like WTF. I would like to blame this on Dooley but I am not so sure it was all him.

I have an interesting one that no one has brought up. What if Charlie Strong comes aboard and the OC and AHC is Kippy Brown?

I still really like the idea of Raheem Morris for D/C but he will probably roll with Grudens new staff.

If Strong is the new coach, I'd rather keep Chaney.
If its Gundy or Fedora, Kevin Steele sounds excellent to me.

Definitely wasn't to keep Graham and Pittman, and go bring Tee home!
I agree. With Strong, I think the best way to ensure the offense doesn't take a step backward, trying to get acclimated to a new system, Chaney Pittman and Graham would make a ton of sense. The offense hasn't been a juggernaut all season long, but my word, this offense has had to play catch up (unbalanced) in most games.

It has nonetheless, been at the top of the conference in scoring and total offense. Hard to see how it would make sense to try and fix what isn't broken.

Obviously, Offense-minded coaches like Gundy, Holgerson and Fedora, would want to install their own system. But I'm surprised Holgerson is not more of a candidate. Get Randy Shannon from TCU (just a LB coach at the moment) or Ellis Johnson (accomplished DC with SC for a long time, but got just fired as the HC at Southern Miss), and Holgerson would be dangerous. Same thing with Gundy.

s"T"rong- OC Kliff Kingsbury(TxA&M). This is my only input as I believe Gundy is all a hoax..He just wants more money from Ok State.
CAN'T SPELL STRONG WITHOUT A T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SIGN HIM UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to see Tyrone Nix be hired as defensive coordinator under either one. His defenses were nasty at So. Miss.

Charlie Strong a good hire for Vols! Check his win % vs. Saban's at < 50 games. Good coaches get better with age and experience. Now my wish list for Strong's staff:

Off: Chaney OC, Graham RB, Pittman OL, Martin WR/TE

Def: Bedford DC, Hurt DL, Jean-Meare LB, Restivo DB

ST: Dale Jones

:hi:

Chaney really wants to stay in Knoxville and I like that loyalty. I think it would work out well since the HC could determine how much you run or pass. He has never had that power runner that gave him the option to have a 50-50 offense. No one can deny that his offense can score points and he should have scored enough this season to have 2-3 more wins with a good defense.

Agree completely.I really like Chaney as OC.We started running better as a team and he started balancing the calls more.

Chaney did well also.

Look folks--Chaney CAN'T get it done in the SEC!!

He needs to go and bring in an OC who knows how to consistently attack SEC defenses and who has a RUN FIRST mentality--don't any of you guys watch the SEC championship games? The teams that have WON ALL run the BALL--AND run it consistently. Or didn't you see Chaney fall apart in play-calling against Fla this year???

:salute:

Florida was just one game, and later we often had to stress the pass from being behind. The running game was so much better this year....it was night and day from last year, when, might I remind you, we were 117th in the country at only 92 yards per game. This year we were 60th at ~160 yards per game, and better yet, our per yard carry (which takes out the effect of not running as much from being behind) was the best since 2004! I have every confidence that Chaney would be able to put together a great run game next year, esp if Graham and Pittman are retained and we land Derrick Green.

OC : I would not mind seeing Chaney return. If not, then whoever the new coach selects, I will get behind, provided its not Sanders or Clawson. :)

DC : What about Van Gorder if Auburn does not retain him? Their D was not great this year, but it wasn't the problem either. I was very impressed by what he did at uga back in the day. Don't want Steele. Would take Chavis back in a heartbeat, but I don't see it happening.
