if a&m joins who will join the east

VA Tech and UNC are worth waiting for, and far and away bring the most to the table in terms of TV markets that the SEC doesn't touch now.

Clemson does nothing for the SEC. Missouri doesn't fit as well as the other options, but bring Kansas City and St. Louis with them. Which is good.

In a shocking development, the University of Cincinnati will be admitted to the SEC East after Clemson and the University of Houston decline invitations.
i wouldn't be totally against cinci being brought in. i think it would be better than duke or somebody way out west that would be hard to travel to like oklahoma or mizz.

Consider this alignment (this is fun):

Coastal: USCe, UNC, UF, VT
Central: UGA, UT, Bama, Vandy
Southern: Auburn, MSU, A&M, LSU
Western: Ky, Arky, Ole Miss, Okla

Ahh if I could choose.....

1.) Georgia Tech ....miss them they start in this conf some great rivalries. plus would be an awesome addition for basketball.
2.) West Virginia.. hey then maybe TN Kentucky and them could start a Hillbilly division. No joke their good, they can hang with the big boys, and are stuck in their current conf. Geographically I think it makes sense.
3.) FSU or Miami...I would always like a tougher conf, then an easier schedule. Also anything that bothers Florida fans tends to make me happy.
4.) Texas......I just would like to show them who the Real UT is on a reg basis.

These rumors of Clemson, FSU, Mizzou, and A&M sure make the 4 division attempts tough. Let's see:

Coastal: Clemson, USC, Florida, FSU
East: Kentucky, Tennessee, Vandy, Georgia
Gulf: Bama, Auburn, Ole Miss, MSU
West: LSU, Arky, A&M, Mizzou

Even if you have one rival in each other division, you still lose Carolina/Georgia, which sucks. But I don't see a lot of other options for splitting things up. I guess you could be slightly less geographical and try:

Clemson, USC, Georgia, Kentucky
Florida, FSU, Tennessee, Vandy
Gulf (same)
West (same)

But that's not a division that I want to be in.

EAST
Div 1: Tennessee, Kentucky, USCJr. Clemson
Div 2: Florida, FSU, UGA, Vandy

WEST
Div 1: Bama, Auburn, MSU, Ole Miss
Div 2: A@M, LSU, Mizzou, Arkanasas

Best way to do divisons. No lost rivalries. Cause Uga could still play USC jr. and Auburn ever year as locked rivals. We could Play UF and Bama as locked rivals. Sorry Vandy...is it really that an important rivalry? Not really. But we'd still play Vandy often enough.

I am not a fan of this bullcrap at all. Expansion dilutes the quality, the history, the rivalries that exist in current formats.

Being a MD guy, I can speak to the ACC. Basketball was always awesome in the ACC. They sure didn't need VaTech and BC. Although those schools are certainly extremely competitive in football, I can't say the the conference is that much better with them. (oh, thats right, you need 12 teams for the frigggin conf championship)

Yeah...won't happen like that

Also you added too many teams; max expansion would be to 16....you added 5 teams to a 12 team conference

i don't think we would add all of those teams but those are some of the "rumored" schools... :hi:

Hopefully Nick Saban is the VT AD. They bring the most to the table.

their AD is saying no.

I wouldn't put much stake in his word- he also said they wouldn't be leaving the Big East back during that shift, if I remember correctly.

True, what I read said they didnt want to move because of their rivalry with the University of Virginia. Same reason, Oklahoma doesnt want to move without Oklahoma State. Which makes the Texas A&M move interesting, is that enough motivation for Texas to keep the rivalry in tact and move too. I doubt it, everything I read points toward Texas being independent with their own TV deals they negotiate.

Word around southwestern Virginia is that it's less about that rivalry and more about the fact that Tech fought so hard to get into the ACC in the first place. There are quite a few SEC/ACC rivalry games, and that one's deep-rooted enough that I don't think it would be abandoned.

I do not like the idea of adding at all - however it seems that the environment is changing to where conferences will be the key power players in football - they will do what is best for their TV contracts - this they see as expansion

so it seems inevitable that it will happen - if i were the SEC i would take this opportunity to get better in the only other sport that people care about and you can sell - men's bball - they don't seem to be considering this at all

I think football already has plenty you can sell on a national stage and the additions being talked about do little if anything to add to the prestige of the conference

i mean really - clemson, seriously, this is the SEC and we have people excited about clemson - pure craziness - A&M doesnt move the meter for me either - these two would be the competing for the 8-10 best team in the conference range right now in football and they add zero to help with men's bball

at least A&M gets you the TX TV mkt but clemson gives you absolutely nothing

I agree, Clemson is trash. On a side note, A&M is a hell of alot better fit tv market wise. Bring in Missouri or VaTech along with them and the SEC strikes gold.

In the big picture, I dont think recruiting is a huge factor. Some players may prefer a conference over another as recently witnessed in vol-land. Doesnt seem like the majority.

Expanding the business footprint is the driving factor, and Im not hating.

Saying the SEC will be impossible to get a NC is probably not looking as far into the future as the folks making the decision. After this many in a row I doubt they want to give that up just to expand for some meaningless reason.

Samething was said when the SEC expanded to 12 teams. SEC will continue to win Championships at the NCAA level at 14 or 16 teams
