if a&m joins who will join the east

The other expansion team will be from among these choices, realistically:

VaTech
Mizzou
NC State

A step down in likelihood:

North Carolina

Never gonna happen:
FSU
Clemson
GaTech
Louisville.

The top three introduce new states and new TV markets. NC is unlikely to leave Duke and the basketball-driven ACC. The rest either do not expand SEC footprint and would not be allowed by existing SEC members.

East
Virginia Tech
Clemson

Florida
Georgia
South Carolina
Tennessee
Kentucky
Vandy

West
Texas A&M
Florida State

Alabama
Auburn
Arkansas
LSU
Ole Miss
Miss. State

Just a suggestion....

i actually have figured it out.

they will divide divisions based on what helps alabama the most and screws tennessee the most.

It kinda hard to do that. Bama is one of the best teams in the country. It doesnt matter who you add they are going to recruit and play well against. The exact reverse for Tennessee the shape this program in now I could see us having a loosing season every two years and possible back to back. Florida st. and Oklahoma have you seen these guys recruit and play. COME ON MAN.

VT president said No.

A texas tech official was being used as a source on twitter that FSU will be the 2nd team.

I like this setup best ...

Div I: UT, VU, UK, A&M, UM, MSU, USC

Div A: UA, AU, OU, LSU, UF, UGA, Arky

... that should get us a shot ATL!

Was listening to the radio earlier and the thinking seems to be it will be hard to pull an ACC team because they would be facing much tougher competition. Also, OU/OSU and VT/UVA may be tied at the hip due to state legislatures having to approve of any move. They also think any expansion ultimately ends with a 16 team conference. Maybe not immediately, but eventually. The broadcasters' opinion was TAMU,OU,OSU, and Mizzou be the most likely scenario. Not my opinion, just passing on something I heard on the radio.

Personally, I'd rather the SEC not expand. I think the risk is too high. We end up beating the hell out of each other and teams like USC or Oregon or <insert name here> come along fresh as a daisy and claim the NC by winning against an SEC team not at full strength. Look at the conference's NC run. Nothing is broke. Don't screw with something that obviously works. Unfortunately, I don't think Slive's that smart. I'm sure he'll make a big mess of this.

Va tech or mizzou seem like they could be likely some of the options, and either would likely be just fine

If 4 being added is the plan, then you can start considering the OU/OkST tie in perhaps

Have a link to that tweet? (if it's that reliable/official, I'm surprised we havent seen or heard anything yet about it elsewhere)

I go to Sewanee, and played on the football team for a year as a freshman.

Tiger Woods would have a better chance at remaining celibate for a month than they would even scoring a field goal against any D1 school.

i agree with the poster who said sec needs top quality bb schools.cause sec basketball is lacking.and adding ou,aTm,fsu and any other team would make it very tough to go undefeated.also everyone talking about sec west would dominate which they do now, but i remember a time when ut,fla, georgia and the rest of east dominated for a few years.put oklahoma in sec east and aTm in west it would equal out.

They were a powerhouse back in the day though. Beat quite a few SEC teams.

All of this proves one thing...

Its bad enough when the legions of internet sports honks try to talk about defenses or recruiting.

Its exponentially worse when they try to dissect television markets and state legislatures.

I'm certainly for Texas A&M expanding the SEC footprint. My first inclination has to go with the Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech) as the 14th team, esp. if you're balancing them against A&M, though they appear to not be interested in joining the SEC. I would second probably go with Florida State (and I surprise myself for saying that). I see FSU in the East would be an interesting game for UT, but I would rather hope FSU there would help diminish the Gators more in Florida (likely in recruiting).

I'd even be okay with NC State, as the SEC moves into North Carolina and the Triangle area. The Triangle could desperately use more SEC coverage! I would next lean toward Oklahoma provided without the poison pill of Oklahoma State, as the SEC would likely not take OU if they had to take OSU. If they were interested (they being Oklahoma), I might move them up on my list, though they seem to be more for the Big 12-2-1 (whatever you want to call it) or the Pac-1X (depending on its possible expansion). I don't know though how to easily re-balance the SEC divisions if we add two western teams, likely Auburn or Alabama would move east, so a challenge to overcome there. Then, maybe I would consider Missouri.

After seeing this stuff with the Longhorn Network, I don't the SEC should ever try to include Texas, EVER. I am not to keen on Clemson or Georgia Tech with the SEC already having established schools in those states. No thank you, Miami or Maryland, and Duke/UNC are not gonna leave the ACC they love so much.

In honor of you, TrueOrange, I'll give you the easier to read post. Explanation in my longer post. My preferred 14th SEC team:

1. Virginia Tech
2. Florida State
3. NC State
4. Oklahoma
5. Missouri

In a shocking development, the University of Cincinnati will be admitted to the SEC East after Clemson and the University of Houston decline invitations.
