If Barnes retires when ZZ is done ......

Shaka is from Milwaukee and already had a taste of the SEC at Texas, where he was a fish out of water. He’s not leaving.
Thanks. We were awaiting an official ruling from some guy. You might want to log that another familiar coach “had a taste of the SEC at Texas, where he was a fish out of water” and then ended up being Tennessee’s most successful basketball coach.

A couple corrections...
Smart is from Madison, not Milwaukee.
Texas was in the Big 12 when Smart coached there, not the SEC.

Smart may not leave Marquette, but if this is Barnes's last go at it, I think you call him and see. Tennessee can offer more of just about everything than Marquette can. So, it will come down to his comfort being settled in back home, or does he want one more big bite at the apple to prove himself?
Yes - thanks for clarifying he’s from Madison.

Of course I realize Texas was in the Big 12. They are still the same Texas they were when he was there - huge brand, full of themselves, and with money coming out of their ears.

Bucky McMillan is my pick

Bucky has Buzz Peterson written all over him. Buzz was a really good coach in the Southern Conference as well when we hired him. Rolling the dice with a low or mid-major "up and comer" coach is how our program wound up in irrelevance purgatory twice. Once between DeVoe and Pearl, and once between Pearl and Barnes. So, no thank you to Bucky.
