I truly don’t know who to go after. Hubbs said last week those who think Barnes is retiring “read too much into his comments about ZZ.”I'm exactly sure I just said dropped charges didn't necessarily mean he was innocent.
"Wasn't much doubt"...apparently there was enough doubt that they didn't believe they could convince a jury he was guilty.
They almost always charge someone in a domestic situation like that because of how the laws are. Many, many times they end up getting dropped.
I will say I find it hard to believe he just up and decided he was going to try and strangle his wife to death.
His story is she was the aggressor and striking him, so he tried to restrain he by her wrists and she tried kicking him in the balls.
If this is true ( and it could be, we weren't there), it could explain a lot in regards. I have personally seen women attack men and then call the police on them and say they attacked them.
If a woman is attacking me and trying to kick me in the balls, it's possible I might have to "lay a hand on her" to get her to stop.
If I had to do that it wouldn't mean I was necessarily in the wrong/an abuser.
But again, I ( we) wasn't there to know the 100% truth of the situation. I hate to think tho if his story was true and something like that happened to me, that there would be people treating me as a a convicted felon and calling me a 'woman beater". Let alone lobbying for me to not get a job.
He may be approached, but the Louisville job was his if he wanted it, and he didn’t. He’s not going anywhere else. The chances are slim to none but I could see DW making an offer to Jay Wright.
However, he hates the current state of NIL and I don’t see him leaving a comfy job to deal with the drama that comes with it.
Shaka is from Milwaukee and already had a taste of the SEC at Texas, where he was a fish out of water. He’s not leaving. That's just it though, Byington didn't do anything with Stackhouse's mess. In the modern world of college basketball, a new coach almost starts from scratch, which is much easier, and in fact, preferable when you can lure in any transfer you can land. Byington has a completely new team. It isn't like he's taking Stackhouse's leftovers and moving mountains with them. That entire team transferred out and Byington brought in 13 entirely new players (11 transfers and 2 FR).
Now, credit to him for making them into a competitive team, but it's hardly proof he can build a program. And don't get me wrong, he'd be near the top of my realistic candidate list, as well, but because I don't think we'll pursue Beard due to baggage, Otzelberger isn't leaving Iowa St. for Tennessee, Bruce Pearl is a pipe dream, etc.
For me, if we are going to aim high, Shaka Smart seems to have figured things out at Marquette and only makes $3 million. His postseason record is concerning, but he's improved by one round each year at Marquette. He may not take the job, but Tennessee offers bigger profile, more money, bigger budget, and a chance for annual revenge against Texas. I'd make the call just to see.
From there, sure, try Beard or Byington, but more realistically...
•Grant McCasland at Texas Tech
•Ryan Odom at VCU
•Mike Morrell at UNC-Asheville
•Alan Huss at High Point
•Griff Aldrich at Longwood
•Ben McCollum at Drake
•Bucky McMillan at Samford
Those aren't sexy names and they don't have piles and piles of success, but they are what the list probably looks like after big (unlikely) names.
Kentucky having to go the Mark Pope route has tempered my expectations.
Yep. If he was going to return to coaching it would’ve been at Louisville, where he and the AD are super tight and he provided counsel in hiring Kelsey.Wright is a northeast guy and his family has called Philly home forever, he loves his new TV gig, and he got out of coaching for precisely what is only going to get worse as we go along. Jay was a program builder with a recruit-and-develop system, building teams with players that stayed and grew together. There isn't enough money to make him deal with the mess the college game is becoming.
Louisville has four FFs, two titles, and 14 sweet 16s since 1985. You can bash the Pitino era & NCAA issues all you want, but they have elite facilities, a basketball-crazy fan base, lead the country in MBB revenue, and still put close to 20K in the stands every night. It's not 1985. Most SEC jobs are on par or better than Louisville.
A couple corrections...Shaka is from Milwaukee and already had a taste of the SEC at Texas, where he was a fish out of water. He’s not leaving.
