That was 20 years ago. He's a completely different coach now. He runs a slow walk it up the court offense, cant recruit, cant develop and doesnt have the drive he used to.
Tubby Smith is the definition of mediocre. Just look what he did to the Kentucky program. He put them in a hole. Calipari is the ultimate coach for a place like Kentucky. He knows how to run that massive program. As much as I hate to say it, Kentucky is back on top and known as THE program of choice for the BEST recruits.
Tubby Smith couldn't keep Kentucky near the top. How would he do ANYTHING at a program like UT?
UT needs someone who can market and build. We will never really recruit like Kentucky. So, we need to build through other methods.
Oh, ok, since you don't get it, ask any Kentucky fan. He was mediocre. Hell, even analysts will tell you he underachieved at Kentucky.
