If I can't have Peyton at QB...

26 Vols were Drafted from 2003-2007 (all drafts that featured players that would/could have played with Clausen). You can argue about how many of those made an impact in the NFL but they obviously did enough in college to get drafted.

Heck, the 2003 draft (2002 season) had EIGHT Vols drafted which tied with Miami and FL for most from one school.

The Clausen era was deeper than you give it credit for.

How many of those were receivers, tight ends or running backs that actually benefitted Casey? Also, that's only an average of 5 per season. Not that great.

Not sure all the years but the 2002 Draft I think only Washington and Witten were offensive players.

Nobody is claiming it was like Bama now or USC/Miami in their heyday putting 8-10 each year. Having an avg of 5/year is respectable.

I looked it up personally. Meachem is one of your 26. He redshirted 2003, thus Clausen never had the chance to play with him. That leaves you with 6 offensive players, one of which was Kelley Washington who played all of 2-3 games in 2002 before being drafted. One other was Scott Wells who was a fantastic center, but not a weapon Clausen could use to throw to. The remaining 4 were Cedric Houston and Troy Fleming as RBs and Mark Jones and Jason Witten. Let's not kid ourselves. Jones was a decent receiver, drafted in the 7th round, but he was never, ever a playmaker and that 2002 season Witten couldn't do anything because every defense focused on him. Point is, Clausen had no real offensive help in 2002 or 2003. He just made things work.

that was the '03 draft and Washington played what like 3 games in '02?

Sorry, meant '03 draft which would have been the 2002 season. And yes Washington played very little in that season.

Of course Clausen missed some games as well. Remember James Banks trying to play QB against UGA?

True, but also being surrounded by NFL talent including the defense means the team itself is better. For instance the 2003 Miami win was mostly defense and special teams. The offense didn't do hardly anything that game, but neither did Miami's.

I'm not arguing that the team as a whole wasn't good, especially compared to the last 5 years or so. But even with a rag tag bunch of receivers, Clausen still threw for just shy of 3,000 yards in '03 and over 2000 yards in '02 despite missing 2 1/2 games that season, including the UGA debacle with James Banks.

If I can't have Peyton at Qb, I'd take Tony Robinson, Tee Martin, Andy Kelly, Condredge Holloway, or Alan Cockrell.

Then I'd take Bobby Scott, Dewey Warren, Heath Shuler, Bray, Ainge and either Jeff Francis, Charley Fulton, Jeff Olszewski or Bubba Wyche. After that, I might take C.Clausen.

Left out Joey Matthews

Seriously doubt this. I would have liked to find out but I think that Miami team would have beaten us.

do. not. agree.

That 2001 UT team was absolutely ridiculous.
The beat down we put on Michigan was absolutely epic.

I think if we could have gotten past Saban and the Tigers in ATL we would have had another crystal trophy, and frankly, I think the program would be in a much different situation today than it is now.

Uh maybe you should go check out the 2001 Miami roster. Arguably the most talented in the history of the sport. Would UT have been blown out? No. But they weren't beating the canes.

Wasn't a fan of the Ice Man back in the day....probably BC he looked like a tool with that haircut! But would take him now in a heartbeat!

I appreciate people who can look back and admit faults. It's something I should be better at personally and just an admirable trait overall.

I count 9 players off that Miam squad who made Pro Bowls not including the late, great Sean Taylor. UT would have made it closer than Nebraska did but that Miami team was LOADED.

The only thing that annoyed me about him was when he said he could beat UGa with one hand tied behind his back then turned around and lost to them. Otherwise, he didn't deserve the hate, and we have not had a quarterback of his caliber since he left. Makes me miss him even more.

He was saying that because he had a seperated shoulder. He was hoping to play in the game but its hard to say he " lost to them" since he couldn't even play.

And LeBrandon Toefield. It is sadly ironic that, after those two went to the sideline in the first half, there was a palpable sigh of relief. Our defense simply did not exhibit the same level of intensity in the second half.

The same thing was said before the 85 Sugar Bowl and we beat the ever living shiiite out of The U, Heisman winner Testaverde, Michael Irvin, Alonzo Highsmith, Melvin Bratton, Jerome Brown, Bennie Blades, and the whole lot of them!

Beating down Michigan wasn't exactly a big time achievement; UT should have destroyed them.

And that Miami team was possibly one the best and most talented of all time. We probably would done better than Nebraska but Miami would most likely had won.

Doesn't mean the same thing would happen in 2001.

Plus if you're going to there, the next year Miami beat the snot out of us in Knoxville.
