Your perspective is a little short-sighted. UT basketball will survive this, Pearl or no Pearl. I hope he survives this, but will continue to support that program without regard to the coach. No different than those that chose not to support Kiffin of Dooley because of their loyalty to Fulmer. There is nothing wrong with being a fan of a coach, but to allow that loyalty to blind your overall loyalty to the program calls in question your fandom to begin with. The same can be said for those that do not support the program because they don't like Pearl. I do not support Barack Obama's government takeover, but it doesn't mean I am any less a fan of America.

I agree with your analysis overall. No one should be a fan of a coach over the program. I am a fan of UT athletics and want all programs to be successful. I try to support the coach simply because he is our coach. However, as in Pearl's case, I choose not to support the coach or be a fan of the coach, but as a fan of the program, I still want the program to be successful. Most coach are mercenary by nature. Why would we ever support the coach over the program. This constant Pearl is the program doesn't fly with me.

I will support whichever super clean, avoid even the gray areas of recruiting, NIT ceiling coach we get if Bruce is canned over this.

Hell, if Pearl is fired, I can think of about 50 other people that I hope feel the same way as the OP

I cannot believe people actually think we're hiring a coach who will do what it takes to win if Pearl is fired. We will not. We're getting a clean loser. I know it's hard to believe for those who actually think college basketball is a clean sport where angels win championships and lying to the NCAA about illegally having a recruit over to his house is the worst thing ever.
