If Pruitt starts Guarantano against Kentucky—he is not a legitimate coach.

A coach gives his team a chance to win by exhausting every possible option.

We lost to Georgia yesterday with a 4th string QB.

Our defense played their asses off. And guarantano handed them the game by being concrete footed in the pocket, slow to make decisions, and just completely inept.

This isn’t a shock either. We’ve known what we have at QB for 3 years now. The fact that guarantano has started a game after the Bama game last year(even before that if we’re being honest), makes me SERIOUSLY wonder if Pruitt is a competent coach.

And makes me wonder if our administration is competent giving him an extension....

While JG is a problem, if our coaches dont fix the Oline we wont beat anyone of note..if you cant run the ball....you cant win against the big boys ( unless you have a Mike Leach on staff...and we dont).

So many fans seem to not realize that the screwups by the other 10 on the field adversely impact qb play. So average qbs like JG get dumped on by the average fan because their shortcomings are spotlighted.

I will be happy for JG when he is gone simply so this board can quit obsessing about him. I do wonder if some on here will still be blaming him for poor qb play 3 years in the future the way they blame CBJ for the piss poor coaching we are seeing today.

Exactly....JG for damn sure isn't UT's future and I want to see JT Shrout play this week followed by Maurer, then possibly HB and Holiday. We need to see what we have LIVE, imo. It really is a free year and coach ought to use this free time developing our young talent. I'll admit it would look unusual and probably result in some criticism but it would pay dividends down the road and the players would be delighted.
Not sure how we can criticize the QB play more than we already do lol.

JG is the fans' favorite punching bag. Lol

Question for someone close to the program? Does JG know enough to recognize D's and get out of the play or change the blocking assignments. I would see him audible and it reminded me of HS when QB called a play in huddle and went up to line, looked at D and decided whether said play would go left or right. He would do simple audible and UGA D would all shift at one time in unison and we got either twitch penalties or minus yards..Train wreck

If our coaches arent smart enough to counter a counter by simply calling a fake audible then prepare for a few more years of mediocrity at best.

I am curious as to whether it is window dressing or is it something more. I want to know who the O-line and the team really want under center. Never in my years have I seen such a passive display at QB, no emotion. He doesn't get his o-line fired up to want to play for him. I never like Baker Mayfield but honestly, we need a QB that brings that kind of fire. You don't have to be great but you have to show you care. JG provides neither of these qualities; no emotion besides pouting and sulking which is counterproductive.
Geeze

Is JG to blame for the hurricanes..Covid..

Are you seriously blaming ****** Oline play on the QB? If they play at less than 100% every play...they suck worse than we thought...and the coaches are definitely to blame for that

Lol people have been blaming the OL for 5 years. We have all world talent this year and still blame OL.
Hold the phone just a minute on our #55. I can't remember the players name, (Harris?), that plays noseguard for UGA but he's the the best defensive lineman in all of college football .....bar none. I highly doubt any QB will be stepping up in the pocket nor will any RB gain any yards up the middle against UGA. This guy is in the top 5 of the upcoming NFL draft.

Pruitt and JC get paid very well to coach and decide who plays. Fans watch the games on TV and know more than the coaches. It is comical really. JG is far from great just like our football acumen and knowledge of SEC football compared to to these guys that do this stuff for a living.

So as long as you get paid a lot for being a coach you know what youre doing?

Why did we fire CDD and CBJ?

If Pruitt had an o-line yesterday that protected the QB, I would be willing to bet money he would have put in another QB. JMO....
I think CP knows where we stand as a team after this game. Had we hung in there and fought hard and made a game of it he would have put more emphasis on winning the upcoming games but i think he might start letting a lot of the younger players get some time in games for developmental reasons. Roman Harrison played extremely well after Deandre Johnson got ejected. We have a lot of talent that needs to see the field and this is a free year.

So you think the OL play had nothing to do with how the Offense played? SMDH
In my honest opinion those three turnovers were squarely on JG failing to get rid of the ball or realize there is pressure and not to mention throwing off your backfoot into coverage was just stupid. The team lost all confidence once those things happened. And it resulted in 13 points and a complete momentum change.

If your going to bench JG, which I agree. Then you can send Jim Chaney packing too. He stinks as a coordinator. If your going to use a single back formation then you'd better teach your quarterback how to look off safeties. Jim Chaney stinks!!!

Is Mauer healthy and mentally ready?
Does Shrout have the ability and support to play?
Has Bailey caught up enough to go?
Do you put Holiday in at wildcat and rotate one of the others?

I don’t see why if we have a set of bad series or get down bad late why we dont put in another quarterback. JG isn’t going to be here for ever and may get injured. We need backup Qb experience.

3 turnovers? How was he not the reason? The defense didn't really start breaking down until they were on the field for over half the game. How is that for perspective? Perspective is looking at the totality of the game and the cause and effect. JG couldn't make quick reads. I am tired of the excuse for 4 years "it's the O-lines" fault. You figured being a 5 year senior you would adjust your game to such play if it has always affected your ability. Why is it other QB's could always do more with less but no in JG case? The mental clock in his head isn't there and never will be. I will give you Chandler, always thought he was a bit overrated but we do have playmakers but hard to show their ability when not getting the ball.

He’s he should’ve demonstrated more ball security, but he’s not to blame for getting blindsided after our hyped Oline had turnstiles for arms

Get a message to Fulmer and Pruitt with your insight. We got spanked by a natty contender. Our coaches and players need to do a better job.

To better understand my comment it requires a little reading comprehension. The o-line isn't without fault but JG is the "leader" and he is just as responsible. However, my opinion won't change JG fanboys such as yourself.

In Pruitt's mind, no, because they might turn the ball over, fear of which always outweighs actually scoring points or successfully moving the offense.

He played Mauer and Shrout last year. Mauers injury kept him off the field and the team wanted Gitmo over Shrout. The scrimmage today will give the staff a better idea of who is or isn’t ready. Personally I would like to see Shrout and Holiday rotate against Kentucky early and go with the hot hand but I just don’t see it happening. Likely it will see Mauer start and Bailey get a couple of series.

I dont blame individual players, just me though. Most good coaches say that "It's on the coach if we lose. The players when we win" Just coach speak, but it's not bad thing to try and remember

He played them because he had zero choice, and went straight back to JG as soon as Maurer got hurt. He's always said that the person who practices best plays, and he's stuck to it, and it's killed our offense, and limited what Chaney could do even if he could remove his mind from the early 2000's and revamp his playbook.

Well it was a head scratcher, because Pruitt took Shrout and then Maurer out last year for throwing into double coverage. Also when Maurer turned it over also JG turned it over and was pulled after 2 TO but had 4 TO's last night no pull. It makes you wonder like you said his confidence in the Oline must be down or JG took so many #1 snaps he didnt want to chance killing the confidence in whoever is #2. I think Maurer is but that's another thread.
