If Stokes Enrolls Next Semester....

Playing in only practices (which I'm not sure he has, sounds like he's been working with a trainer only) and scrimmages sounds EXACTLY like playing zero competitive ball to me.

As much as this hurts to say... I do agree with you on this one

If a school wanted to transport basketball players to class in limousines and allowed them to skip all papers in classes, this wouldn't be a problem?

Seriously? Transporting students in limousines is on the same level as pushing back some stupid paperwork deadline? Seems a little dramatic.

Student athletes get special treatment in the classroom already... nothing new there. I've witnessed it first hand. At first it kind of bothered me, but then I got over it. I don't have to dedicate tons of hours of my time to something outside of school that doesn't pay a wage like they do. Granted, they (may) get a free ride, but their existence funds a multi-million dollar business in college sports. I think most institutions will turn their head to some degree when it comes to preferential treatment.

Why burn an entire year just to play for 2 months? Unless he's so NBA hungry ($$$) that he doesn't care.

He won't be in the 2012 draft, 2013 is the earliest I believe. You have to be 19 + a year out of high school to be eligible for the NBA? And if you had the chance to make millions you wouldn't want to do it quick as possible?

If Stokes is anywhere near as good as everyone thinks, he won't be here for 4 years anyways so it doesn't matter.

I don't think it is the deadline itself that would give the NCAA heartburn, but the preferential treatment above and beyond what a typical student at the university could expect. If the university regularly waived the deadline for non-athletes, maybe they would have a case.

In football at least, kids transfer to other schools in mid-August all the time. I am pretty sure that the majority of schools have application deadlines that are well before then.
