Am I the only one who thinks if the defense is has been said to lack talent and still be a step behind, what does that say about our offense at the orange and white game. I know it was supposed to be vanilla but the defense seemed to step up and the O not so much....Thoughts?

The defense is always ahead of the offense during spring ball, unless you have a complete lack of defense

If this is all we are going to talk about all summer it's going to be a long summer. If they O had lit up the D we would be have 4 different threads about the D sucking. I mean idk what could have happen to not make the fan base complain.

Defense going back to a more simplistic 4-3. Offense installing a new playbook with bad QB play and thin at WR. I'd say it went by the script.

With all the skill players we lost from last years squad I would not expect to much from our offense this early. Our offense didn't look spectacular last year this early either. I would not put to much stock in what we saw this weekend. I feel confident they will get things ironed out over the next 2 weeks before the season gets started.

Who in their right mind would expect an offense with an entire new coaching staff, 2 quarterbacks that are basically brand new, lost the best receiving duo in the nation, injury to the best returning receiver (who by the way has never played and was a TE last year) would expect anything at all in a dang spring game!!!! I am surprised they got a freakin first down!!!

ANd before you say what about the offensive line??? would it be a good practice game (and by the way dont forget this was just a glorified practice) to run it every down????? Come on man!! Think a little before you post!!!

Another thing we have not seen any tackle defence the last 3 years, this is what a defence is supposed to do hit people it had been so long im like you i thought something was wrong.

I think we will see a more consistent offense than we have witnessed in a while. We might not put up 40+ points a game, but will be seeing a team where we wont be left wondering which players are going to show up each week.

Yep. I think the defense will be better just because it's an easier system.

Guys on offense who were missing yesterday who will play a lot this year:

Tiny
Harris
North
Quinn
Lane
Croom
Downs
Jenkins
Branisel

A lot to be determined yet to see what this offense will look like come next September. I think we will be just fine.

Sapp and Randolph were rated too low imo. Coleman maybe too high?

Maybe but he played too early and in a system where Sunseri routinely put him in no win situations. Sapp was a 2* safety. I am surprised Rivals didn't project him as a LB and give him 3*.

Randolph's ranking was pretty ridiculous considering how the AJC glowed about him.

Sapp surprised me in the O&W game. He's going to run away with that starting spot if he hasn't already.

Brewer isn't a safety any more.

Moore or McNeil probably start opposite Randolph. Both were 4* players.

By "stars", UT's starting D has about as much talent as anyone in the SEC.

I also thought Sapp was great. Also Randolph made so good stops to be 80%. I think there were more players making good effort in the defence than I had expected. I liked the way the D was in the backfield all the time. I know, this is spring schrimage, but you could see all the difference in the way they played.

Go Vols!!

We've got a little more depth on defense. Inexperience at QB and injuries really plagued our offense at the O&W game. Luckily, it should only get better.
