If UF's Spring Game Is Any Indication.....

Solely depends on Garcia.

East is a four team race with UT being the outside long-shot. And I do mean long shot.

I fully expect the east winner to be 5-3. It's all going to depend on who can win the division games.

I am about as pessimistic a UT fan as you will find, but it certainly looks like things are starting to fall into place. There are quite a few ifs next year for the Vols, but none of them seem quite as glaring as the rest of the division.

I fully expect Georgia to be disappointing again next year btw. Well disappointing to Georgia fans.

We've just got to take care of business against the division teams. I'm being very cautiously optimistic about next season. I just think it can be a very good season.

If we get lucky and most of the things that could go right (Miller taking to DT, Janzen coming back, the receivers panning out, etc.) do go right, they should be able to get through the East with some degree of ease. If they steal a game from the West, the season could go from very good, to downright special.

We will beat Florida next year.

Hope you're right, but what are you looking at that makes you say that?

Pieces seem to be falling in place. The OL should be solid and have a bit of depth for the first time in a few years, same with the DL. Bray is going to be a hammer, we just need the receivers to continue to improve like they did last year. I think the RBs will still be pretty good.

So basically, offense is a huge pro next season.

On the flip side, the LBs will be pretty weak unless some underclassmen step up in a hurry. We definitely need Janzen to come back, and the interior DL could still be a bit shaky. However, there is athleticism all over the place on defense. Teams are going to have a hard time out speeding us, and the secondary should be solid even without JJ (and damn near elite with him, and that along with a good showing from the DL could mask some deficiencies at LB).

UT deserves to have everything go right for a change, and if it does, this team is going to be damn solid this year and damn good in the next few years.

I've said the same thing to people around Knoxville. There's no reason we shouldn't beat them.

LSU will be very winnable IMO. The two games on the schedule I just can't see us winning is Bama and Arkansas. Other than that, I think we've got a good shot to win the rest.

It will be interesting to see what goes on with Arky. They don't scare me nearly as much without Mallett.

Sorry, I shouldn't have quoted your whole post earlier. I meant with Georgia. Why do you think they're going to continue to struggle?

History, more than anything. I don't look at the team and think "gee, they are bad," but I rarely do. They just find a way to be a lot worse on the field than they are on paper. Richt is like a slightly better Fulmer.

Another big factor weighing against Tennessee is the combination of SEC West teams each SEC East team will play this year. UGA's got the easiest draw, and Tennessee's got the hardest draw.

Georgia: Auburn, Miss State, @ Ole Miss
South Carolina: Auburn, @ Miss State, @ Arkansas
Florida: Bama, @ Auburn, @LSU
Tennessee: LSU, @ Bama, @ Arkansas

UGA and USCjr should get no fewer than 2 wins, and both could probably go 3-for-3.
Florida should get at least 1 win, and would be doing good to get 2.
Tennessee will be doing good to get 1 win from those 3 games. If we're going to make it to Atlanta this year, I think we'll need to sweep the SEC East.

edited to add - I think our toughest games will be USCjr, @Bama, and @Arky. I think UGA, LSU, and @Florida will all be very winnable games.

bray will be facing his first tough defense when you guys come to gville right? we'll see how he does :)

yea they did

but that season was a goner anyway we'll see what he does with a clean slate

Both USC and Tennessee were still playing for something (a bowl, in UT's case).

In any event, I think UT's defense/UF's offense will be far more crucial for TN in that game. Bray and the O will be good for a couple of TD's at least. Maybe not a lot more. As long as he doesn't make the big mistakes, it will be left to Florida's offense to decide the outcome.

I'm not as optimistic as most around here about that game.

Regardless of how many tough D's Bray has played against, he will be better than what the other side has to offer. :eek:k:

He attacks so vertically. I hope he looks for the check-down when D's start dropping more guys back. I'm not sure that he's demonstrated that yet, but maybe he has.

your prolly right about it coming down to our offense

JB could make your defense look better then ours

This is the first time in recent memory when I think Tennessee actually has the advantage with the early season match-up. Usually, it is the other way around.

How much would you attribute Meyer's offensive success to Mullen, going all the way to BG?

I wouldn't attribute as much success as many here have. Mullen started out as the QB coach under Meyer, then was promoted to OC later on. Mullen had Xbox weapons at UF in '07 and '08.

Obviously Mullen was a better OC than Addazio. A trained monkey with one eye is a better OC than Addazio.
