I'm expecting a tough season this year like a lot of us, however, is there a minimum level of success you'd accept? At what point if any would you lose support for Butch this year?

Or does he get a pass this year no matter what?

I've thought long and hard about this, and wanna hear other people's honest opinions.

No one this year. But having said that if we lose to any of the powder puff games, he'll take a huge step backwards.

My God . . . He hasn't even coached a game yet.

So, you're saying he gets a pass, got it... It's not a troll thread man, it's asking for other people's opinions.

I've been thinking he should get a complete pass for the year, but the more I think about it, the more I worry about him losing support if we lose to someone like Western Kentucky, or Vandy...

We have to give the man some time.

Rome was not built in a day. Nor was Alabammer. Hell, Saban lost to a Louisiana directional school his first year at Bammer.

With the talent Butch has and the schedule he faces, 6 and 6 is a realistic expectation. If it looks like the kids are being coached and exerting effort, I think the fans will accept that record. If the loses are so noncompetitive that recruiting commitments start bailing (especially to Vandy), Butch's honeymoon will be over.

We never have an excuse to lose to any sec teams not named Alabama,Auburn,Florida,Georgia,or Lsu. Our talent level should be equal to or greater than anyone else. Yeh Spurrier is at SCe and has some good things going on, but it's still South Carolina at the end of the day and he can only have that show going for so long.

This was the expected W/L ratio just posted by a "Vol" fan on another board. But he said he didn't care and that Butch need 3 years to get us to 8+ wins.

How much of a pass would he get? Cause maybe I'm in the minority, but it we went 3-9, I'd want him fired, right or wrong, I would...

vanderbilt or kentucky in the early building stages is a nono even if you are bringing in better players. Im sure we can all handle our share of ass whoopings from UF and Bama.

That's complete ignorance right there.

It would take an awfully bad season for me to completely give up on him this year (maybe 3 wins or less). That said, I don't think his situation is nearly as dire as everyone is making it out to be. The roster is better than what CDD inherited and CDD went 6-7 with it and very nearly won two more games. If Butch is the coach we all think he is then he should easily win 6 games.

Things actually set up well for Butch overall. He has a good number of seniors on this team (the first time in a while UT has had a decent size senior class) and if there's one thing we've learned over the years it's that people tend to step in their senior year. Combine that with super low expectations we're all setting and he should be able to keep some momentum this year. 2014 is also a strong legacy and in-state recruiting year and he has about 30 scholarships to spend so that helps him as well.
