Burn them all at the QB position! Lets alternate them all and have some competition! Remember that Johny Football was great as a freshman (not that we have him...I know) and I believe he was a 3* recruit at one point. Besides, what do we really have to lose thats worth a the top 5 recruiting class CBJ is putting together?

Manziel redshirted his true freshman year.

Can you redshirt a player in any year, ie if they are frsh, soph, junior or even senior??

Looks like we are down to 3 viable QB's this year. I would think that Ferg and Dobbs have to be looking at the current situation and can see opportunity knocking.

.

Yes you can. We're trying to rs Marcus Jackson this year so he'll still have 2 left.

This. The love affair with the redshirt is an overrated one.

Exactly...if they are good/bad enough they leave early or dont finish anyway. We need 6 w's and Im not sure we get there like this. GBO!

You dont burn Dobbs' and or Fergie's redshirt just because we are throwing darts and hoping something lands. If one of them steps forward and begins to materialize, then hand that guy the ball. But I believe one of these freshman are our future and I dont wish to see him lose a year of eligibility on the off chance he can suddenly become a miracle worker for a quarter and eek us by Vanderbilt. And honestly, thats not likely to happen anyway. If one of these kids was a hero we would have seen it by now. But one of them will have to take reps this year now that Peterman has gone down. If they are dead even at this point, then I would redshirt the one who I feels has the most upside for future seasons.

I think people are jumping to conclusions about Fergie traveling with the team. It doesn't make sense to travel with four QBs in a game where there is a limit to the number that travel. Butch may have told Dobbs he'd be traveling to the Bama game later in the year. In any event, I think you burn both redshirts and give them both a shot on the field. Practice performance doesn't necessarily translate to who the better player is. Throw them both in the fire and our QB for the next three and a half years may be the one who plays better. I just hope we don't wait until after the three big conference games to experiment. Let's find out sooner rather than later.

The reason I disagree is because eeking out a victory against Vandy may be the turning point of our program in regards to an extra month of bowl practice and the ability to keep this recruiting class together. You don't hold out bricks that may be the key to the foundation.

The point l was trying to make was, that all things being equal, you don't burn both redshirts. If one guy rises up then you have got to play him.

Burn them both and see who can play. People kill me worrying about 4 years from now. History tells us that if they're both good, there's very little chance of both being here in 2 years anyway.

You're exactly right about everyone here thinking that Fergie traveling was the same as the coaches saying he is ahead of Dobbs. Do these wonderful insights into private coaching decisions arrive to posters here in the form of telepathic brainwaves or something?
