If you are CBJ, whose redshirt do you burn??

I don't think he will burn either of them. They are both talented QB and he wants to have them for at least 3 years and he wants them to be around when we actually have talent to show off their talent. No use burning their redshirts in a meaningless game in their freshman year when you are going to need them in their senior year to win bigger games. Butch is taking a long term approach with these 2 boys and will bring them along when they are ready not before they know the system. I would put Marquez North and run the Wildcat in before the other 2 or just let Worley play the whole game and get a lot of confidence in his receivers.

Don't burn a redshirt. Instead run the wildcat after the half if Worley needs a break.

Burn them both and see who can play. People kill me worrying about 4 years from now. History tells us that if they're both good, there's very little chance of both being here in 2 years anyway.

Exactly my point. If they are that good then they will probably go pro before their eligibility runs out anyway.

In 2015 we'll recruit our QB replacement anyway...why are you guys so worried about redshirts?

I may be reading too much into things, but I think Dobbs may be a bit less likely to transfer if he redshirts. His major will probably take him 5 years to complete and Ferguson has been much more outspoken in interviews about wanting to earn te starting job this season (though those were interviews before he got in campus.)

So I'd probably redshirt Dobbs if Ferguson is ahead like many think he is.

Everything I know about the quarterback situation I learned by reading this forum, so based on that, Worley and Peterman are both off the team now, Ferguson will start against USA, Dobbs will back him up until he transfers, and then we'll go grab some kid off frat row who looked really good in that YouTube video from the intramural game the other night.

Can you clarify your point?

The poster is obviously referencing the post about if they are both good they won't be here in two years anyway . You are thinking going pro , while the poster is thinking transferring ......as all three of those players did .

Well, sort of...

I knew all three of those players transferred. And, I wasn't sure transferring players had anything to do with GAVols context. If CBJ burns both redshirts, one of them emerges as the better QB/leader, then why does it matter if the other becomes a transfer?

I mean who cares? Now is so much more important than "then"...in today's day and age of change and unpredictability.

:devilsmoke:S Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama all wear red shirts. I would burn all of them!! Kinda ironic that those are our next four games.:devilsmoke::the_finger:

Burn them all at the QB position! Lets alternate them all and have some competition! Remember that Johny Football was great as a freshman (not that we have him...I know) and I believe he was a 3* recruit at one point. Besides, what do we really have to lose thats worth a the top 5 recruiting class CBJ is putting together?

He was great as a redshirt freshman, and struggled to land the job during preseason practice. He actually makes a better case for redshirting freshman QBs.

I'd be inclined to keep one from being burned simply because we currently don't have a QB in the recruiting class.

He had to of meant transferring because you have to be 3 years removed from high school before you can go pro. QB is a position that once Butch decides who the starter is, the other guy is going to transfer. Who is going to wait until their 4th (assuming the guy ahead of them goes pro early) or 5th year to start? Most of these kids are use to being the star of their team and center of attention. Back up QB for 4 years isn't in the cards. Plus, there is a chance that if they can't start over the dumpster fire of a QB corps we have, then they get recruited over anyways...

I think people are jumping to conclusions about Fergie traveling with the team. It doesn't make sense to travel with four QBs in a game where there is a limit to the number that travel.
Isn't really a jump to get to that conclusion. Having to play a 3rd QB is hardly unprecedented. I believe it's safe to say at that point that CBJ was more comfortable with Ferguson as his 3rd QB. Doesn't mean that he will be a month from now.

On the other hand, the notion that CBJ would tell any player - Dobbs in this case - that it would be "his turn" to travel a month down the road is silly, especially given the pitiful situation UT has at QB.

Can you redshirt a player in any year, ie if they are frsh, soph, junior or even senior??

Looks like we are down to 3 viable QB's this year. I would think that Ferg and Dobbs have to be looking at the current situation and can see opportunity knocking.

.

Probably thinking...

Yes exactly. Hence the question: why worry about the redshirts at this juncture of the season...just play them both and see how it shakes out. Why worry about 3-4 years from now?

Agreed. Plus, they can redshirt the year they have to sit out at another school so you aren't really costing them a year of eligibility.

Fans quickly forget we can't take any game for granted, like most fans are doing with South Ala.
This team isn't good enough to overlook anyone.

I was actually suprised you said this. I agree, unless one is clearly more ready.
