If you could pick...

And why is comparing Majors and AP "ludicrous"? Both dominant RBs of their time. I think the comparison shows the difference in what it takes to be a a dominant RB then compared to now.

Even Johnny never drank enough to pick himself

Hmmmm.... I get your point 99 and its a good one.... Majors doesn't belong in the discussion with Peyton, Reggie, Al etc. point taken.

However, I saw Johnny coming out of a restaurant on Bourbon St the night before the 1991 Sugar Bowl. I will dispute the notion that he doesn't drink enough to have picked himself.....

I don't care if you are an Eskimo, my opinion remains the same. You are telling me a guy who was a dominant RB in the 20s, at 190 when the offensive line was 200 to 210, would be a viable option in today's SEC. He would be a small RB today. Are you telling me he was a 4.3 type guy? Even then he he would be among some larger guys in the same group. He may have seemed nimble when he was larger that the LBs, 20 lbs lighter than the D line, but against today's athletes, with the D line being faster than many LB from 30 years ago, the LB running RB 40's from 30 years ago and the entire defensive backfield full of guys running sub 4.5 40s and at least 190 lbs, I am doubting he would look to be very nimble.

So you acknowledge that every other position on the field has grown in size and athleticism, yet you think McEver would still be 190 and slow. I'm gonna say if he were on today's workout regimens from 14 yrs old up, he would be a beast. He might not.

I also said I picked him to go against the grain of the cliche' obvious picks that everyone else throws out there. So if you don't like it shut the **** up and move on.....................BRO!

It's ludacris because they are completely different style backs. Majors could never be AP. But with today's workout regimen he could possibly be a 190lb Travis Stevens. I'm pretty sure Stevens wasn't a 4.3 guy, but he got it done.

I wouldn't compare Stevens with Jamal Lewis. Different type of back. But both were good. Comparing Majors to AP = Ludacris. Comparing anyone outside of Jamal Lewis to AP from a size speed standpoint = ludacris.

First off, take some anger management classes, BRO. Secondly, his genetics are his genetics, your suggestion that he would be bigger today is like saying Jordan would be Lebron's size if only he was born 15 years later. If your point is that if you could take McEver's heart and put it in Arian Foster's body, he would be great, then OK. If your point is that if you could take a relatively small white boy with good athleticism and put him in modern times with our current technology and make him into a star SEC RB, then I think you are delusional. I guess you think that a pair of Air Jordans and a thigh master is all that would keep Bob Cousy from taking Derrick Rose's starting point guard position.

Again....you acknowledged that players of all positions have gotten bigger and faster. Yet you completely dismiss the idea of one particular player doing the same. As for genetics, he was bigger and faster than almost everyone then. You don't think there's something to that?

It's fine of you don't like the pick. Again, STFU and move on...........BRO.

Oh yeah, man up and throw your pick out there.

Need a qb. Don't really care about mobility, gotta roll with the all time greatest:

Peyton Manning

Didn't even think about it.

First off, I put picks out there. If you would concentrate on the thread more and less on being a jerk, you would see that. Secondly, I have no idea what you are talking about. Are you saying that is he was born today he would automatically be bigger? The thread was what player would you put on todays team. I guess I could pick Dale Carter but stipulate that I would make him 100 lbs heavier, 5 inches taller and make him run a 3.8 40. What is your point? Your pick is a 1920's 190 RB. I said he wouldn't make the roster. You say yes he would because he would be bigger and more athletic today? OK, I change my pick to me but I am built like Lebron with the athleticism of CP. Done.

It's actually really simple. You keep being a ****, I'll keep being a jerk.

Edit: and to answer your question, yes if he were around today he would clearly benefit from today's technology. I'm not saying he would be 6'5" 280 and fast as hell. But he was clearly head and shoulders above most. With today's technology I could easily see him being 215-220. If you don't think today's technology makes a difference in the types of athletes were seeing, you're the delusional one.

Take your boy AP. Back in the day his career would have ended when he blew his knee in college....much less after his second blown knee. Yet after two knee surgeries he's still trucking people.

Ok, so you add 25 to 30 lbs too him, and maybe you increase his speed some. Now you have an average size SEC RB. You still think with those changes he could earn the spot over any of the top 10 UT RBs of the past 25 years? The fact is he was a big back in his day when the teams were much less athletic. Now you make him an average size back when the entire average defense is Much larger, Much faster and Much more athletic.

Gene McEver is probably one of the top 10-15 Vols ever. I don't care how you slice it. Yes I think guys like McEver, Feathers, and Cafego could easily play today with today's technology. If you don't, that's fine. Why not just leave it at that? Atleast I picked my guy and I'm sticking to it. Looks like you picked Willie Gault, Dale Carter, Eric Berry, Peyton Manning, and Heath Shular. :eek:lol: way to go out on a limb there. Hell while you're at it, why don't you go ahead and finish the entire two deep.........PLAYA

Edit: oh yeah by the way......Travis Stevens holds the single season rushing record.....at 190lbs. :whistling:

I will maintain that you have been a total jackass and I would imagine you are toothless if you talk to people in person the way you do on the internet. I will also maintain, with today's technology, McEvers is still a 190 lb white boy playing RB, which runs rampant through today's CFB. Johhny Majors was one of the greatest Vols ever and he never sees the field in todays game.

And because reading comprehension doesn't seem to be you strong suit, let me explain. I posted I would pick Willie Gault IF I were going with a WR, in response to someone picking CP. I also posted that if the pick were a DB it would be a tossup between Carte and Berry, in response to someone picking Berry. My pick for this team would be a QB, Manning or Shuler, because that is what this team needs the most. While you picked a guy that played in leather helmets 100 years ago, who you haven't seen play, as the guy that would help us the most.

I've got all my teeth. But if they do get knocked out I'll run here and make sure you know about it. Stay classy...........BRO

Edit: don't bring up reading comprehension to me son. The thread title said if you could pick a player.......either way you wanna slice it, you picked 5:eek:lol:
