If you had to pick a game to lose.

I think I’d rather lose to Georgia. If we beat Bama and lose to Georgia, and then they beat Bama in the SEC championship, I think we get into the playoff. If we lose to Bama twice, no shot we get in.
This is cowardly. Don't be afraid of greatness. Lose to Bama and then win out. Avenge the loss. Guaranteed playoff spot and probable #1 seed.

Logic says that a loss to Bama and then running the table would be best, and we would get Bama again in Atlanta with a shot at a #1 or 2 seed in the CFP.

But Saturday is such an incredibly important moment for a program that has been to the depths that we have been. A win Saturday, even if we lost to UGa and were left out of the CFP this time, would be so important psychologically for the program and the fan base. To finally slay the dragon that is Saban and Alabama would not only vault us right back to our rightful place with the elite group of programs, but would be the most important win for us since 1998, and one that would live forever in UT lore.

Who would I rather beat? Whichever is the next team to be played. Period.

Edit: if I had to lose ONE?
UT Martin, no question.

So you think it’s greater to beat Georgia, than the team that has beat us 15 years in a row? Nothing cowardly about what I said. For the record, I don’t give a damn about the SEC championship. It’s all about the Natty.

No, but the post about trying to get into the playoffs without playing for the SEC title is. No chance we should rather sit out and give the voters a chance to screw us.

SEC championship game. Beat both Georgia and Bama during the season. If we are 12-0 going into the title game we are in the playoffs regardless of result. I'm just thrilled we are undefeated going into bama.

The question was which game would you rather lose. I would rather lose to Georgia than the team that I despise more than anything regardless if it costs us a SEC championship. That’s not cowardly, that’s pure hatred.

Not to be a downer, but are we “there” at this point? If so, we are way ahead of the curve. If not, then we’re 10-2…maybe 9-3…and we look to ‘23 with a better secondary.

UT has, to this point IMO, overachieved. I opened at 8-4, and now I’m at 9-3/10-2. A win over Bama or UGA puts me at 11-1/10-2.

If UT beats Bama…and they can, then a loss to UGA does not knock us out of the CFP if UGA beats Bama in the SECCG. At that point, only the Committee can leave us out. And they likely will.

So I’m at 10-2, and a NY6 bowl.

Go Vols.

Lose to Georgia and Georgia beat bama knocks them out and we slide in as 3 or 4 best option I believe. Cause I don’t think you beat bama twice. Michigan and Ohio state will take care of each other. USC likely slips up to Utah or someone of that caliber maybe Oregon.
Clemson probably wins out if they get by fsu so they go to 2 or 3 probably. Need Michigan to beat Ohio state and Penn state to beat Michigan.

If our only lose is to a undefeated Georgia team I think we get in. Truly Clemson is only team that will likely go undefeated if Georgia doesn’t. Clemson actually looked bad at beginning of year but are playing better and weak conference

How about…win every game. 15-0 here we come WGWTFA!!!

But slick would rather win this game than UGA cause we haven’t beat Bama in so long. I think even if we don’t go to the SECCG and only have one loss we are in the playoffs especially if the UGA game is close. But this team really does have a chance to win every game. Look at the way they play and their demeanor. It’s been a long time since we could really say that we might win against any opponent we play. Even that 2016 team didn’t have these kind of vibes. LFG we got this.

Unless we lose to Bama and then run the table, beating BAMA in the SECC.

How about a win over Bama a loss at Ga and win out? Bama wins over Ga in SEC championship and Tn gets the playoff or the Sugar Bowl. Not a bad second year consolation prize. Of course the best would be a Tn win over Bama, an Auburn win over Bama and Bama win over Ga.

Makes sense except that we would need a lot of help to get to the playoff if we lose to UGa, even with only one loss, especially if Bama wins out and then wins in Atlanta. We aren't going to get the benefit of the doubt with voters like Bama, UGa, OSU, and Clemson always do.
Lose to Georgia and hope they beat Bama in SECCG.

IF we have to lose one, that’s it.

1. Ohio State 13-0
2. Georgia 13-0
3. Clemson 13-0
4. Tennessee 11-1

5. Big 12 1-loss champ
6. Pac12 1-loss champ
7. Alabama 11-2
