If you think it's Gruden....DON'T CLICK HERE

Golden - another coach with a losing record
Strong - ranked 50th nationally in recruiting, had an easy schedule with L-ville and his best days were at Florida
Patterson - isn't leaving TCU
Fisher - he's the HC at FSU....they are playing in their conference championship...nuff said.

Anymore ''candidates''?

Why don't you throw some of your candidates out there then bada$$?

Would rather discuss guys that are possible then keep dreaming about Gruden who was never even a possibility!

I saw on both the major pay sites that the primary list is Fisher, Strong, Golden, and Fedora. Also, Hart is rumored to be in Oklahoma speaking to Gundy tonight. I like all of these candidates, and think they could each be successful here. Golden gets a bad rap on here, but unfairly IMO. The train wreck he inherited at Miami is worse than what we had here over the last couple of years, and he did wonders at Temple. He's known to be a good recruiter as well.

I'm still here....if anyone would like to discuss real candidates.

JON GRUDEN IS NOT COMING TO TENNESSEE....turn the freaking page

Off that list I would prefer Fisher.. if he said no maybe strong..
After reading reports I really dont think golden would be willing to leave miami right now.

I feel bad for the next coach because of the Gruden droolers.

It's like there is only one good coach out there in america, nobody is allowed to be an up and coming coach like somehow Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Mark Richt, Will Muschamp & Kevin Sumlin were.

For everyone that is actually being real about this situation and understands that Jon Gruden will not be the next coach at Tennesse, let's have honest conversations about the potential next coach and some realistic ideas. No post about luring Bob Stoops, Nick Saban or Bill Cowher. Hopefully, I'm not the only one on this board that's list doesn't include

Gruden, Cowher, Saban, Muschamp, etc...

Let's wake up and talk about some real candidates (these are in no paticular order)

1) Charlie Strong - Turned L'Ville right back around, strong ties in FLA with recruiting
2) Jimbo Fisher - say what you want he can recruit and has FSU back in the Top 15
3) Al Golden - Don't want him, has never done anything in my book
4) Gary Patterson - Set in his ways, kind of a mystery hire
5) Larry Fedora - He wins, love him or hate him
6) Greg Roman - Would be a huge get, knows the game
7) Jim Tressel - Seriously doubt it with the NCAA hanging over his head and ours
8) Shaw - Would be a big hire. Wins and has never gotten blown out
9) Chavis - Kinda late name, obviously Les Miles thinks he should be our coach

Patterson, Fisher, Shaw, even Tressel I would be OK with. Chavis I think, that ship has sailed.Fedora maybe and who the hell is Greg Roman? Pardon my ignorance.

Roman is the offensive coordinator with the 49ers - Wants to be a head coach has some ties to the Tennessee area

Kinda comical seeing the meltdown by all the Vols fans that finally are realizing Gruden isn't coming.

Scary how guilable some are

Not that I think he's who we need, but just curious, why no Bobby Petrino on your list?

Petrino may very well be a candidate, on Harts presser he said "integrity" was a big deal....just thought that might rule him out.

Agree or disagree on Petrino - HE WINS!

Personally, I wouldn't want Fedora, and it has NOTHING to do with his coaching ability (which I think is Really good) or his integrity (which I have NO REASON to question). The fact is, if we were to net Fedora, he will be doing EXACTLY the same thing to UNC that Kiffin did to us. Only exception is that Kiffin went BACK HOME to USC, AS FAR AS I KNOW, Fedora has no ties or history here. With that said, if he will do that to UNC, who is to say he wouldn't do that to Us at some point? Now, granted, UT is historically a MUCH better football team in a FAR superior conference, just the fact of the matter that I believe, IMO, merits the question.

Edit* Plus, If we were going to hire an ex-UNC coach, I would personally prefer Davis. Much better defensively, GREAT recruiter, and he was cleared of ALL wrongdoing at UNC by the NCAA itself and brought the letter to prove it.

Ok, Thanks. I guess that would be a good hire not the Home run everyone wants though. I agree about Gruden. I never really believed that he was coming. Call me Cautiously optimistic but dont get me wrong I would like to have him if he wanted to be here. I just wonder how long he would stay though. Anyway, Patterson would be my first choice

Fedora Wins Too and we wouldn't have the same worries we would with Petrino!

Agreed - I have very little concerns about Fedora as well. I would be happy with him.

Just a quick fact - all those people loving Kevin Sumlins job at A&M....Fedora with Southern Miss pounded Houston in the CUSA title game last year giving Houston their only loss of the season. They avg'd 58 ppg last season and Fedora shut him down, if you think it's that easy to shut them down see A&M this year and ask Saban.

Glad to see Chavis name being tossed around. Not sure if he wants to be HC or not but he has alot of upside with little downside. He would unite the fanbase as well as anyone else mentioned. He has obvious ties to UT and SEC. He would be able to recruit as well as anyone, IMO, and better than most on defese.....which is what wins championships. He's not a big "splash" hire, but we may need to get back to our roots and lick our wounds for awhile. Don't know how he would do in the spotlight as HC personality wise, because I've never seen him in that light. But at this point, he seems as good or better than anyone else thats available and realistic. Would anyone really just hate to see John Chavis be our next HC?
