If you thought our fanbase was delusional...

They kill 2 birds with one stone if they take Gundy. Same could be said for Briles but their problem is not recruiting Texas. I'm not sure how much more Pickens will put on the table for Gundy with the bad taste of the Bedlam loss still in everyone's mouth. They could offer Gundy whatever they would've paid Saban and see what happens.

These mo************ are delusional. Seriously. What makes Texas or USC more special than us? They will end up with some half ass defensive coordinator from some half ass school. Seriously guys, why does everybody think Texas is a better job than us? Like so many people have said on here before, we were a team before they were even a state!!!!!!!!!!!!

They think that they are more special than us because (1) They have fertile recruiting grounds than us

(2) Both Texas & USC have won two National Championships.

(3) Both USC & Texas have more Heisman Trophy winners than us. O.J. Simpson, Mike Garrett, Matt Lienart, Carson Palmer, Charles White, Marcus Allen & Ricky Williams, Earl Campbell. Notice I didn't list Reggie Bush.

(4) They should be able to pay their coaching staff more than us.

Texas fans really think they can lure Tomlin, Carroll or the Harbaughs from the NFL??

NFL season is not complete until mid January and the SuperBowl in early February.

Tomlin might be available on New Years Day, after the Steelers last game of the season.

Harbaugh will likely take S.F. to the play offs thru mid January.

Carroll is looking for his team to play in the SuperBowl and in that case won't be available until February.

If they don't have a coach in place after New Years Day, they will likely lose this years recruiting class. The new coach needs to visit the recruits before NSD or they may jump ship.

Coach has to be available the first few days of January or they will be in trouble on NSD.

Wasn't a bash on CBJ. Just stating my opinion.

Then I offer you my apologies Cat, guess I'm a little touchy never seen coach/player bashing like I'v seen on VN.

I certainly believe everyone is welcome to their own opinion and constructive criticism can be useful.

Didn't mean to jump the gun on ya I just love the Vols and I'm always ready to defend them.

You could have used clk or cdd as you're examples and I wouldn't have thought a thing about it.

Go look around the web at the Longhorns fan base and their expectations for a new coach. I thought we got pretty bad during the vacancy here but these guys....

Here are some names (or combinations that I have seen)..

Urban Meyer as HC, Muschamp as D-Coordinator.
Jim Harbaugh
John Harbaugh
Mike Tomlin
Nick Saban
Gus Malzahn
Pete Carroll
Jimbo Fisher

..note, they are referring to some coaches even after they signed extensions this year.

It makes no difference about the buy out. Texas has boosters who can buy things out. That's walking around money for some. The bad part is that ESPN has listed the same names you have with out Pete Carroll and Muschamp..

Since the A&M move to the SEC, Texas isn't the destination it used to be. Money is no object and yes, recruiting ground in-state is quite fertile, but a NC is not a guarantee any longer, with the new system. They would actually have to play someone, twice.
Never understood the Mac Brown hire to begin with. Wasn't like he had set the world on fire at UNC.

we have some delusional fans, like each fanbase does. (I know many UK fans who REALLY thought they had Parcells in 2002. Seriously, they believed that.)

However, with our situation, just because UT didn't hire a big name in 2008 or 2012, doesn't necessarily mean they could not have. There are many factors, such as the admin, that can hinder a potential hire. Look at UT, bball. There are several very good coaches in the past who UT could have hired, had leadership cared enough to make a serious commitment. If the UT admin changed earlier (Cheek, Hammy, others) and signaled a culture change to back where Dickey had it, then I do believe UT could have hired plenty of big time coaches. If Fulmer graciously bows out in 2005 or sooner, UT could have hired a big time coach imo.

2005 it would've happened. I think Butch Davis was the right guy for us. He wouldn't have had to abide dirty recruiting here as he was forced to do at. UNC. Kiffin probably would've been a good transitional coach if we could've gotten 3 or 4 seasons from him. Dooley was just a straight up disaster and I still can't figure out how in the hell he*got to UT.

Butch is already top 5, it'll be in the same neighborhood, but higher probably. Its not like we're getting CBJ cheap.

We are getting Butch very cheap when you compare his salary to the extension Saban just signed and what Texas is about to pay.

Texas is one of the top if not THE top jobs in college football. It's the state University, they have lots of money, a state overflowing with HS talent, a storied tradition and a fairly easy conference to win in. The Tennessee job is not even in the top 10. At least not right now. If you disagree then you need to look at the coaches that turned us down the last two times. That's what makes me love Butch Jones so much. He looked at this and said "I will bring the Vols back!"

I would be very surprised if James Franklin gets a serious look for any job opening in the near future. I believe the situation with the on going rape case is alot more serious than people are led to believe, what vandy fans cant come to grips with is if he had any part of a cover up the only team he will be coaching will be with the Tennessee prison system. I think texas ends up with either bronc from BYU or Freeze from ole miss, their hire wont be as big as they are claiming.

Because instead of turning things over to kippy brown to weather the storm hammy went and got the cheapest no name he could find to cool things off with the ncaa

Well known doesn't equal national championships so what exactly are you trying to say?

Or are you just taking a jab at CBJ for no apparent reason?

It's just more evidence of why I should keep the guy you quoted on my ignore list.

Well they CAN because they will go after the top coaches unlike what we did....They can also afford ANY coach out there....Unlike us who play it cheap and luckily We landed a good one...We didn't go after one great coach...Only decent ones who showed promise...Texas will go after a big name right out of the gun and most likely will get whoever they want....So thats why their fans are so excited...Sad but true.

Texas will end up with a more well known coach than CBJ. Book it.

You are right. When CBJ came here, I don't think any well known coach was interested in this job. He was the only one with the guts to take the job. I smell cat ****.

How can anybody say we got a cheap Coach? Yeah his last name might not be Saban, Harbaugh or Meyer etc.... But his paycheck isn't no different.

He's one of the top 5 highest paid Coaches in college football.

Coaches that are currently having success in the NFL come down to college all the time. It's happened..... Uhhhhh.... Let me think.... Let's see..... Hmmm.... Looks as though it's never happened.

Good luck with that wish list, longhorn fans.

So you think they can lure CURRENT NFL coaches, some playoff bound, to leave and come to Texas...I think you got it reversed. They might get shaw...and that would still surprise me.
