And if not for a bunch of volunteers and Daniel Boone they would still be speaking Spanish in the lone star state.

Either go back to school and retake American History or (and this is the much cheaper route) go rent The Alamo from Netflix (either the John Wayne version or the Billy Bob Thorton version) and watch it closely, then edit your post...

How can anybody say we got a cheap Coach? Yeah his last name might not be Saban, Harbaugh or Meyer etc.... But his paycheck isn't no different.

He's one of the top 5 highest paid Coaches in college football.

Again!? Google Butch Jones salary. Read the link that explains the breakdown. He IS NOT top 5. His first year salary is swelled to pay for his buyout at Cincinnati. Of 1.4 million. By USA Todays lack of facts Mark Stoops is right up there with Butch. Kentucky certainly will never be top 10 in coaching pay.

Matter of fact this is partial explanation of CBJ salary. He is 18th nationally below Bo Pelini and above Bill Snyder. He isnt even top 5 paid in conference. He is below Kevin Sumlin and above Gary Pinckel.

Huh? CBJ was the 4th highest paid coach in the country this year.

Just google butch jones salary. It could be worse, we could be Arky who is paying their guy more and won less games and does not have the 2nd best class in the country coming in.

Because instead of turning things over to kippy brown to weather the storm hammy went and got the cheapest no name he could find to cool things off with the ncaa

Should've let Kippy be the interim for that season and conducted a much more methodical search, or gotten Sumlin, who by some accounts was interested. Who knows, perhaps Kippy would've done well enough to have kept the job. Certainly couldn't have been worse than what we ended up getting.

So you think they can lure CURRENT NFL coaches, some playoff bound, to leave and come to Texas...I think you got it reversed. They might get shaw...and that would still surprise me.

Shaw??..lol...highly doubtful he leaves his alma mater to coach Texas.

Coaches that are currently having success in the NFL come down to college all the time. It's happened..... Uhhhhh.... Let me think.... Let's see..... Hmmm.... Looks as though it's never happened.

Good luck with that wish list, longhorn fans.

Is Lovie Smith still circling Tyson Field in Haslams plane?

Don't count on Texas struggling like we did to get a coach. They pretty much have it all to offer a head coach and are willing to do whatever it takes to win. A much better situation than what we went through.

I don't disagree to an extent. The fact they can pay what they want for a coach (although I think $10 million a year for a coach levels on the absurd thinking at least at this point in time) the fact they have Saban on the brain and it's been well reported can hurt a coaching search since ego plays a big portion in this. Some coaches would pack up and be in Texas in a heartbeat, sure, but the fact a coach happened to come in "second best" can play into the equation as well.

Funny though, all their likely targets are playing in bowl games or in the NFL playoffs. That can and will hurt recruiting come January.

No doubt Texas is a great job, but some of these talking heads act like its heaven on earth and that established NFL coaches are just dying to go there.
Until someone changes it I will always view texas as a bunch of soft coddled athletic freaks who will beat the snot out of the majority of their conference foes BUT every year find a way to loose at least 2 they have no business loosing

On shaggybevo there's a poll thread where they seem pretty realistic.

Malzhn is pretty popular as a choice. But don't see why he would leave Auburn after one year. Urban Meyer is another one that has me puzzled.

I never thought the coaching search could get worse than ours last year, but this one takes the cake.

Those guys that transferred were probably asked to transfer. Notice that none of them were real contributors to the team....

My guess is that Muschamp is making room for this signing class...

I just got a text from ESPN that Murphy has announced he is transferring. That is the starting QB -- so either muschamp is about to sign the #1 class in America, or something bad is happening in Gainesville.

EDIT: QB Tyler Murphy becomes the latest to transfer from the Florida Gators - ESPN

wait, he's able to transfer and START right away... hmmm, is BUTCH up to something here? perhaps bring him up to the hill? He would be PERFECT in this read-option offense and might fill a gap for us. (I admit that I didn't watch him play and he was 2-4 as a starter, so I am actually waiting to see what VolNation says about him).

When I read the thread, most of them said they would end up with a coordinator, or Franklin lol

Look at the link i posted on page 1 and READ. Butch year 1 salary is in top 5 because includes his 1.4 million buyout from Cincy. His actual salary is under 3 million. USA didnt research it. By their standards Mark Stoops at Kentucky is elite. Lol

ONCE AGAIN..... The numbers in the USA Today report (and all other articles that are reporting USA Today's numbers) are WRONG!!!! They are inflated to include buyouts to previous schools. We are paying CBJ well, but not top 10 (but more than Arky). I believe that Sumlin's new contract will push him above CBJ, but can't remember the number he re-signed for.

I don't see Texas ending up with a coordinator, at least not from the collegiate level. Maybe an NFL one though.

Mahlzan to texas wouldnt shock me too much, Auburn is the only school with the kind of potential to have a coach come in for one year get to MNC game, and leave

wouldn't shock me much either. You will always play 2nd fiddle to Bama in that state. He could be the king of Texas if he brought them back. Would be a great hire, but would hate to see him leave Auburn and being the thorn in Saban's side.

I don't even put James Franklin in the running for the Texas position. While he's accomplished a lot at Vandy, his schedule the past couple of years really helped him out. Weaker ooc and middle SEC teams. This year he played a beat up Florida and Georgia. Texas has a boatload of money to throw at a coach. I expect a big hire.

Mark Dantonio is way down that list. I assume he will get elevated after this seasons perfrormance.

2005 it would've happened. I think Butch Davis was the right guy for us. He wouldn't have had to abide dirty recruiting here as he was forced to do at. UNC. Kiffin probably would've been a good transitional coach if we could've gotten 3 or 4 seasons from him. Dooley was just a straight up disaster and I still can't figure out how in the hell he*got to UT.

Johnny Majors and Vince Dooley are old friends. Majors recommended DD to UT as a favor to Vince. The rest is history.

Exactly!!! I just want to know why them and USC are soooo much better than us.

Texas Longhorns football - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Because in the past decade plus they have been and still are better than we are all around

2004 Rose Bowl Champions, 2005 National Champions, 2008 Fiesta Bowl Champions(4th claimed title in school history), and they where in the 2009 National Championship game.

Despite one loosing season going 5-7 in 2010 they've still won a minimum of 8 games the past three years, and may finish with 9 wins this year depending on their bowl game.

Edit: Unlike USC, Texas also hasn't had their National title win or their other recent major bowl wins revoked by the NCAA.

Surely Gundy won't leave OKS. I know I'm just a girl, and a lot of people don't take me seriously on here, but come on, I just don't see how Texas is even in our league.

I really don't care for Texas one way or the other, but before saying whether or not a team is irrelevant or not, do some basic research. I found information after a five minute search on google to back up what I've said in regards to bowl wins, records, etc. You have nothing, no real clue about what your talking about, and have done nothing except to prove why people, myself included now, don't take you seriously.
