‘23 IL WR Carnell Tate (Ohio State commit)

I spoke with my friend and he said that he has been putting in a good word for Tennessee, but nothing more than we already know. He will let me know if we are trending more than we already are. Wish I could give u guys a boom of an update, but I think Tate is playing the NIL game IMO.
I’d say that NIL detail gets taken care of April 9th weekend.

Yes, he’s a game changing talent we haven’t had in along time at the position. Can blow past the defense
UT has had some of those type guys. For 4 years, UT was just terrible at QB. For the better part of the last 14 years... the offensive scheme was weak. Chaney under Dooley was the exception.

Here are some guys who fit in that list since 2010:

D Moore
J Hunter
C Patterson
J Malone
M Callaway
J Palmer

Can you imagine what Heupel could have done with Dobbs, Kamara, Hurd, Callaway, Malone, Jennings, Wolf, Kelly, etc?

Tate looks like a very good WR. But to be completely honest... without claiming expertise or that the videos are truly representative... the kid from Arizona looks like a better player. He's physical and quick off the ball.

Velus was good. Not Carnell type of talent though. These are game changers that pop off the page. Ohio State, Bammer caliber.

So a kid who's never played a college down is a game changer, but the guy that ran a 4.31 at the combine and was the 2nd fastest guy at the senior bowl is just 'good'.

Let's put it this way:

What will Velus get drafted vs some of those speedy Bama WRs or other top tier 5* types?

The difference is Heupel's offense.

Now put one of those Day 1 caliber WRs in Heupel's offense.....excited to see what happens.
Velus had played at Bama, and had the exact same season he just had, he's first/second round.

Love Velus and all he accomplished. Wont debate on production but what they are say is true. Give Tate and the kid from AZ 3 years with Heup and I believe the numbers will show

Yes 32 separate NFL teams and their billions can't differentiate...

I'm confused. Do you really believe Velus is a 1-2nd round guy that's going to get gipped?

Tillman had a better season and even decided to return...

Velus was 9th just in the SEC in receiving yards.

Jmo but some of y'all are making a lot out of his seaon. The NFL sees a 25 year old with 1 good season under his belt...but he was also under Hype's offense. They know that too ofc.

None of this to take away from Velus's season
...just saying, this offense creates studs. But a raw legit 5* type talent would absolutely kill it here.

Both can be true. But he didn't do much until Heupel came along ia my point.

And a time 40 meter isn't everything either. Unless you think he's a day 1 draft guy. I have major doubts.

He was also second fastest offensive player (in MPH, not 40 time) at the senior bowl.

I have no idea how he will draft, but VN has a long history of undervaluing some of our players.

Do I believe perception plays a part in the draft, absolutely. If Velus had put up almost 1800 yards of total offense at Bama, then went and ran a 4.3 at the combine, absolutely no lower than 2nd round.

How many players got gipped whenever JaMarcus Russell was chosen #1? Or, how gipped did Tom Brady feel? How'd Kevin Dyson work out, whenever Randy Moss was sitting right there. Or...I could go on and on and on and on...
Point: billions or no, draft is not infallible. Has nothing to do with getting gipped, everything to do with perception. Yes, 100 percent, I believe had Velus played at Bama or Ohio St or Clemson, it would have added to his draft stock.

Same thing with Velus. I would love to see the top three receivers we had this year together for a second year. I think there numbers could have been monstrous.

That we can agree on.

And fwiw I' not saying he isn't a really solid player. He isn't UDFA quality or even rd 7 quality. He's better than that imo.

Just that there's a gap between him and the top tier career receivers. And that's just imo and can surely be wrong, but I'll leave it at that.

Ok, so does it count that Velus was the second fastest WR...not counting actual time? Or did the equipment only lose accuracy when our guy ran?

I’d like to have seen it on the field. Seems the equipment was in accurate when everyone was on the field

And that in a nut shell explains the lunacy that is volnation!

Or the discussion of nick naming Neyland Stadium the "VOLcanoe".

A Vol Canoe? Little boat with orange oars and a V shaped hull? Or a Volcano like a mountain spewing molten rock orange hot magma ( requisite Dr. EVIL tone whenever one says the word mag-ma! )

Either way sounds like good times but my money is on the fire belching mountain tbh
