‘23 IL WR Carnell Tate (Ohio State commit)

A Vol Canoe? Little boat with orange oars and a V shaped hull? Or a Volcano like a mountain spewing molten rock orange hot magma ( requisite Dr. EVIL tone whenever one says the word mag-ma! )

Either way sounds like good times but my money is on the fire belching mountain tbh
That is the topic dejur in the FF. The OP misspelled VOLcano and that opened up the can.

No one thinks those times are real. This just so happened to be the fastest class at every position in nfl history….or there was an error

Sup bro. I agree that Occams razor and whatnot would suggest the lazershow was running a little fast this year...while less likely IMO the 5th year of eligibility plus a year or 2 spent at home gyms and empty fields with nothing much to do EXCEPT work out may have also been a factor. Another variable is that since considerable weight is allegedly given to the numbers from the combine these days, more and more players are hiring trainers/coaches who specialize in only improving these guys measurables in the 40, vertical, broad jump, cone drills etc and these guys spend months working just to shave a tenth or 2 off their 40 times knowing it can make them millions more $ over their 3 year rookie contracts....

Edit: i understand that laser is an acronym and doesnt contain a Z. I am an American though...and when something makes a Z sound I use the letter Z, unlike the Brits who spell words like this : realised. socialised. Recognised. Thats lame and unAmerican. Might as well be french and surrender. As for those in my home, we will use the letter Z frequently and without concern while eating huge portions unseen in Europe, shooting lots of loud weapons on private property, and driving cars and trucks with at least 3x as much hp as said vehicles would ever need to reach 100mph in a flash. God bless America and the letter Z.

I think there may have been an element of moving the order of the 40 too (not 100% sure it was moved).

Didn’t consider the covid possibility. I assumed if anything that would’ve harmed this class.

The athletic training becoming better and players putting more stock in their 40 I agree with but we should have seen a more gradual increase over time if it was mainly due to that. Although this 100% plays some factor

I’d like to have seen it on the field. Seems the equipment was in accurate when everyone was on the field

He was also 2nd fastest offensive player at the senior Bowl, consistent with his combine performance.

Bottom line is he is just as fast as the 'top' school guys. Draft order is based on far more than straight line speed, so he may not draft as high, but he isn't slow.

That I’ll consider valid. You’re talking about the chips they place on players to track top speed?

Love Velus and all he accomplished. Wont debate on production but what they are say is true. Give Tate and the kid from AZ 3 years with Heup and I believe the numbers will show

The point is Velus only had 1 year with Heupel. If he had 3? You are likely looking at a top 15-20 overall pick imo.

UT has had some of those type guys. For 4 years, UT was just terrible at QB. For the better part of the last 14 years... the offensive scheme was weak. Chaney under Dooley was the exception.

Here are some guys who fit in that list since 2010:

D Moore
J Hunter
C Patterson
J Malone
M Callaway
J Palmer

Can you imagine what Heupel could have done with Dobbs, Kamara, Hurd, Callaway, Malone, Jennings, Wolf, Kelly, etc?

Tate looks like a very good WR. But to be completely honest... without claiming expertise or that the videos are truly representative... the kid from Arizona looks like a better player. He's physical and quick off the ball.
With respect to Callaway, Jennings and those guys. Except Alvin. They aren’t the caliber of Jerry Jeudy, Jaylen waddle, Calvin Ridley, Julio Jones, Amari Cooper, Najee Harris, Derrick Henry, Zeke, Terry McLaurin, Michael Thomas. That’s obvious to anyone and everyone with clear shade glasses on. Which is why we need Carnell. Get Carnell and that type of talent back here at UT and we’ll claim share of game breakers that will dominate the NFL draft

For the love of all things big orange, please change your screen name to marcusluvzvolz!
It’ll be epic!

GBO!!

So a kid who's never played a college down is a game changer, but the guy that ran a 4.31 at the combine and was the 2nd fastest guy at the senior bowl is just 'good'.
“Game changer” meaning potential, draft projections off of the potential. As well as route running, straight line speed, catch ability etc. Velus is a nice talent absolutely. But Carnell has more potential. It’ll show wherever he ends up going to school at, hopefully it’s here at UT. We need to get the top of the line talent influx at that position. Can’t imagine what our offense would look like with Ohio State, Bammer, 2019 LSU receivers. My goodness

Hopefully velus gets drafted high, probably a 2nd rounder or so maybe. Haven’t checked the draft boards lately. Most of the NFL people think he’ll be a role player. Hopefully he can get his shot to shine

LOL... and here we are again. One, you parsed that list pretty good to avoid being wrong. You're still wrong. Granted Saban has signed MORE highly talented guys. FWIW, Cooper, Ruggs, Waddle, and maybe others were 4*.

No one has found and signed more talent than Saban. That's no one's argument. But UT has had, and squandered, talented players due to poor coaching.

Of course we have squandered talent. Didn’t say we never have. That’s what happens when you have poor recruiters/coaching/evaluators running your program for 15 years. Looking good so far with Heupel on that side of the ball
