The 6-foot-2, 178-pound playmaker was recently at Tennessee for an official visit. It was his third visit to Knoxville and the Vols have slowly moved up his list to become one of the top two schools in this race.
The offense under Josh Heupel, the recruiting class Tennessee is assembling this cycle, and the vibe in Knoxville has put the Vols up there with Ohio State.
Heading into the visit to Knoxville, the Vols, Georgia, LSU, and Notre Dame were chasing Ohio State. The race has tightened considerably between Ohio State and Tennessee after Tate spent 48 hours in Knoxville.
This is coming down Ryan Day vs. Josh Heupel. Tate is not planning to take an official visit to Ohio State because he has visited numerous times and seen everything in Columbus. Brian Hartline’s track record has the Buckeyes high on Tate’s list. They have a strong relationship and Hartline’s ability to develop receivers has always had Tate’s attention.
Tennessee has some momentum coming out of this past weekend. An official decision has not been made by Tate according to a source, but the Vols could have a slight edge with a decision nearing. Tate is in regular contact with five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava too. The two spent time together in Knoxville, and him being a Tennessee commit helps the Vols.
Outside of official visits to Georgia and LSU, Tate has no other visits planned, but one more visit to Knoxville has not been ruled out.
