β€˜23 IL WR Carnell Tate (Ohio State commit)

I mean we went from like 102nd to 9th in offense in 1 year. That’s mind boggling. I didn’t expect anything near that.

Yeah, and not only that, but we lost our leading WR (who is an NFL talent) and had to completely start over at QB and RB with basically a bunch of retreads/young role players (no offense to them at all). Very impressive.

Most kids can't sign an NiL contract while still in high school. Nico was unique because Cali kids can sign such deals.
Thanks for the correction.

I still think the other guy WAY overplayed the idea that only money matters to these kids.

Hadn't thought about it but could players give themselves some insurance by signing package deals? Let's say they sign a deal together then one of them struggles with injuries their whole college career. The other could be insurance for them.

That's very unlikely to be true. You are making big assumptions about all of those kids wanting nothing more than UT's money. Truth is that A&M got a leg up too. Folks here whined about it... but they got ahead of the game. Brice Young got a multi-million dollar NIL deal as soon as it became legal. LOTS of programs can pay and will pay if they want to compete with UT over a particular recruit.

UT/Spyre appears to be doing it better. I don't particularly like NIL but it is now the rule. Those who succeed will take advantage. If others are truly committed to their "high horse" view about it... you will see them sink pretty fast. And as long as everyone operates under the same rules... so be it.

You're not. Some like Vandy just won't have the will or popular appeal to pay football players on par with UT, Bama, et al.

LOL... no it isn't. This isn't about the kids for Saban. It is about the advantage he's enjoyed being undermined by this new level playing field. Saban had success and could recruit kids based on that, yes. Bama has also had a network for decades where boosters "took care of" Bama players.

Even if you think they weren't excellent cheaters under the old system... Saban is upset because the system that served to place him on an unreachable perch no longer exists. Others now have a real chance to go after top shelf players.

This comes from your assumption that money is all that matters. Nico is the most notable current example. He will get paid. At the same time, he appears to really like the staff, UT, Knoxville, and the fans. Every player will consider ALL of the things important to THEM. Money undoubtedly will factor. But a lot of people on this board live where they do by choice. They could move somewhere else and double or triple their income. These kids are no different. Important things outside of money will play into their decision.

PS- if you were right then Tate would already be in the boat and shut down by an NIL contract. Kasper too. Webb wouldn't be a UF lean.

I agree about Saban and failed to convey it in my wording. -apologies

As for Tate (or any other big recruits), I can see several going back and forth to different schools to make it a bidding war. (reports are the Philips kid in basketball is currently doing this) and football will be no different. I'm not saying I agree, but in today's world, I would bet highly this is/will what starts taking place. VQ stated we have two highly rated HS kids from Montgomery that "reached out" to TN. As I stated in his thread, maybe they are truly interested, but I would be highly skeptical that they are suddenly interested in TN. Recruits talk and others want a piece of the pie.

I understand it is an assumption, but the amount of money being offered now is insane and no way is it all about the school. Who knows what happens next. Does TX offer Arch $10mil? I can see it happening.

It does appear Nico likes it here and that is great, but no way $8 million doesn't have something to do with that. An 18y/o just made more money than I'll ever make, and I guess that is the same for a lot on this forum, so he'll parade around in whatever we ask. Either way, even if Nico turns out to be a bust, it doesn't matter because he would be set for life.

Either way, the Vols appear to be the right side of all this at this time. That is great

Go Vols!!

But haven't they been having bidding wars already with what money they are getting?

LOL

Guys apparently you can't be a first round draft pick at WR unless you go to bammer or Ohio State 😯
That's not what he said. He seemed to infer that there has historically been a better chance for US Bama WR starters to go first round. I haven't looked, but suspect he's right.

This is so true. Saban dislikes the new system, because he figured out the old system of paying players under the table better than anyone else. It's essentially the college football equivalent of legalizing marijuana or ending Prohibition. The people who controlled the illegal trade are the ones with the most to lose from legalization.

That said, he'll figure it out quickly (and he already has in reality), but it might very well shrink his competitive advantage.

Would need to be real tight friends! 😏

I'm thinking it would be better if it were mostly business. It would be a potential sacrifice but it could also be good insurance... and still a pretty goo payday.

And in my mind... UT would be hedging its bet if they could pull a duo similar to Tate/Kasper under one NIL. The odds are good that at least one would meet expectations.

It could get even bigger by signing OL's and a RB under one NIL. OL's probably won't have as much opportunity and it would be in the RB's best interest to see great OL recruits come with him.
