‘23 IL WR Carnell Tate (Ohio State commit)

Really liked Harrison but I think the 5* from rivals was unwarranted and done to get Vol fans clicking that website. Ultimately hurt him in the end with unreal expectations

I don’t know if Vol fans had anything to do with it but I agree. AP said something similar awhile back. He said Bailey getting his fifth star was bad for him. I know some say Bailey was overrated because of his HS weapons. But to my knowledge none of his HS weapons has done much in college.

True.. buuut against any power 5 conference high school football in any conference is a joke... even the bench warmers on most SEC, Big10 rosters would school top end high school teams.

So about all those threads and posts complaining about our lack of NIL traction….. el oh el

Tony B spent most of last year worried about our sagging NIL program (and he might have been right, for all I know).

Yesterday he was on air griping about us spending too much.

Gotta love him.

I like Tony, but I found it annoying how, after months and months and months of hand wringing about how we weren’t in the game with the big boys when it came to NIL, he lost his mind about us allegedly spending 8 mil on Nico.

Tony, we’re either in the game or we’re not.

Exactly. We either spend the money, or we don't. It's not HIS money so why the hell does he even care? Some people want us to be good at football, but apparently don't want us to do what it takes to make that a reality.

Nah. If we are good they have nothing to complain about and then become irrelevant.

Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy's Carnell Tate, the nation's top wide receiver per 247Sports, has named a top five of Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Notre Dame and Ohio State with several common threads as to why those schools made the cut.

"I built a great relationship with each coach at every school and I know their history of development. I know at each school can develop me well and I know I can fit in each school's offense," Tate said.

Tate was at Notre Dame again on Tuesday. After that visit, he will get to Georgia next weekend, which will be his first visit with the Bulldogs, Ohio State on April 1st, then an official visit with Tennessee the weekend of April 8th and 9th. He is also working on getting a visit scheduled with Alabama.

With his list now narrowed down and these visits scheduled, there are a few factors he is looking at on these trips that will help him get from five to one.

"Last minute relationships and how I'm treated at the school on my visit and then NIL," he said. "We have had some little talks about [NIL] but we will get into bigger talk about it when I get on campus."

Another factor will be who each school is bringing in as the quarterback in this class.

"That's definitely a key to see where the quarterbacks go will help me make a decision because I'll know which quarterback is there to help me get the ball," Tate said.

None of today's top five schools have a quarterback commit yet, but Tennessee has a Crystal Ball prediction for five-star Nicholaus Iamaleavea and Notre Dame has good buzz with five-star Dante Moore.

Tate may play in a 7-on-7 tournament with Iamaleava coming up and he also has a good relationship with Moore, with the two players talking every day and even discussing taking visits together.

On Notre Dame, Tate said, "They're great guys. They're high on their players and make sure their players are ready. I'm definitely trying to see last minute how I fit in the offense and fit in on and off the field as well as the what kind of NIL opportunities are there."

Tennessee has moved up the list as Tate has taken two visits to campus now and is in consistent contact with new wide receivers coach Kelsey Pope was well as offensive coordinator Alex Golesh and head coach Josh Heupel.

"Me and Coach Pope are picking up where K.B. (Kodi Burns) had left off, so there was no lost relationship there," he said. "They always throw the ball. From when [Coach Heupel] was back at UCF, they always had 1,000 yard receivers. The previous year, they just had [Cedric] Tillman, but two other guys almost had 500 yards or more. The same with Coach Golesh, he wants to throw the ball. It's an air raid offense."

Have you ever noticed that he is always on the negative side of everything? I have not listened to him since 1996. It sounded like he wanted to undermine our program in those days and from what people are posting now that is still the case. My other opinion from listening to him back then was he was like an old women on the phone spreading negative gossip and rejoicing in it.

And even funnier, *we* aren't spending 8m, its our donors and sponsor businesses. We may point them in the desired direction, but thats endorsement deals, not university money.

From Rivals:

Five-star wide receiver Carnell Tate announced his top five on Tuesday as Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Tennessee made the cut for the Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy standout who’s originally from the Chicago area.

Below, Tate breaks down each of his top five:
GEORGIA: “Georgia made my top five because I have a great relationship with coach (Bryan McClendon) and I know what Georgia is capable of doing. They’re a highly competitive team in the SEC and they know how to develop their guys.”
ALABAMA: “Alabama made my top five because of development. I know if I go there and do all the right things and stay healthy I’m capable of going to the league. Coach (Nick) Saban develops players and he has a great track record of players he has developed and I would love to follow in the footsteps of them.”
OHIO STATE: “Ohio State made my top five of coach (Brian) Hartline and what he’s done at the wideout position. We’ve built a great relationship and he’s one of the best receiver coaches out there. He develops his guys and then Ohio State has been known for putting receivers out there. They know how to get their receivers the ball and you can see (Jaxon Smith-Njigba), Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson what they’ve been doing at the wideout position and they continue to produce great wideouts each and every year.”
TENNESSEE: “Tennessee made my top five because of coach (Josh Heupel) and his high-powered offense, his Air Raid offense, I love it. Any receiver would love the Air Raid offense that gets them the ball. It’s a high-tempo, fast-paced offense that I would love to be a part of. I also have a great relationship with coach coach (Kelsey) Pope. We’re continuing to develop that relationship where coach Kodi (Burns) left off. Coach (Heupel) has a long track of receivers with 1,000 yards. Back when he was at UCF he had 1,000-yard receivers and then Cedric Tillman.”
NOTRE DAME: “Notre Dame made my top five because of my relationship with coach (Tommy) Rees. We’re like family at this point. He’s been there since Day 1 recruiting me. He’s seen me grow up from freshman year to junior year and he knows what I’m capable of doing and also I love the degree there. It would set me up for life. Coach (Marcus) Freeman is a great guy. I would love to be around him as my coach. Notre Dame is a national brand and they compete at a high level. Also, coach (Chansi) Stuckey is a great receivers coach and he has (NFL) experience which he can pass down and help his receivers get to where he was at in life.”

It was just so strange and unexpected. As much as he was panicking about NIL for a whole year, I was just sure he would be celebrating us finally getting serious about it. But instead we got: “What are doing giving this kid that much money?”

And I like Tony. I really do. But come on.

He will grip about anything that ill get his name in print. I never believe of what he says.

We may seriously average 55 points a game
If our defense can get itself off the field, the sky is the limit. The year LSU's offense broke all those records, they were also 6th nationally on 3rd down defense. We just need to get that component fixed badly. The elite++ offense is headed our way!

Thats why Pearce, Josephs, West, Philips, Burley, and Herring are so important. Add some others to that DL and start finding some playmakers in the secondary and we'll be there.

Well...he had the most to say about us, ND, and OSU. Time to play the SEC card. Just ask Nico...
