North
Pearson
Malone/Croom/Pig

over

Hunter
Cordarelle
White Lightning

Let's just hope one of these QBs can get the ball in the general direction

Yes.......plus once game slows down for Josh Smith...then he will be a threat
Many more talented options now.

How about we combine them-

Hunter, Pearson, North, Patterson, Malone, Howard, Croom, Z Rogers and I'll throw D. Rogers in there as well.

That would just be unfair.

The funny thing is, with the exception of Malone and White Lightning, that could've actually happened last season if everything went right for us. Edit: And Pearson.

Dude the players could be walking and Josh Smith would never be a real threat. I'm glad he's a Vol but no one is game planning around him.

I thought at first this was one of those "We'll have so many weapons at receiver, there's no way a defense will be able to cover them all!" threads.

(because if they try to cover one more, they'll just get burned by another, etc, etc)

Saw quite a few of those back before 2012.

No you wouldn't because the 2012's now have pro ball experience and would be unstoppable as college players now. Even if Patrick Ashford was the QB. Actually Pat might be awesome for all I know.

Not doubting the usual dorky threads. But that group did actually do some serious damage to SEC Ds in 2012. Anything resembling a defense and Dools is still here IMO.

Yep they had some monster production, the majority of SEC schools couldn't handle them but we had the worst defense in TN history.

Mostly Due to the fact that it could have been Da'Rick, CP, and Hunter...
3 guys with NFL starts last year

Exactly. If someone told me at the beginning of the year that UT would score 51 on UGA and 35 on SC, but still lose them both I would have called them crazy.

He wasn't open that many times by only busted coverages. He has talent, and is VERY fast in a straight line. He just happened to do the one thing that will get you negative attention as a WR. If he gets the drops straightened out he's going to be solid.

North has already shown to be a better WR than Hunter or CP. We will have to see how Pearson does. So this thread is not that far fetched.

Umm no. Granted they benefitted from better QB play but CP and Hunter both put up better first year performances than North. Numbers wise and eye test. Lot of people on this board forget what Hunter was like before the injury.

I didn't see that speed you are talking about. He was constantly left one on one and didn't get much separation. I can see why he wasn't heavily recruited. To be honest he won't see the field next year.

Go back and watch the drops. The first comment you'll hear from the announcers is that he was WIDE OPEN. Separation isn't the problem. It's been making the catch.

Exactly, no one is game planning around him, yet he is a great receiver with some drops he will shave off.

This is 100% correct IMO. Kid is fast, runs good routes, was open a lot last year.... just had the yips and dropped a lot of balls. I was a critical of him as much as anybody. But I'm willing to bet he gets it straightens out and is in the 2 deep rotation..... I could see North-Croom-Pearson, Malone-Smith- Johnson.

One thing to consider is that the 2012 receivers had the opportunity to establish a great rapport with one quarterback (Bray), which made them even better.

The argument can be made that the 2014 receiver group has more straight-up talent, but I don't see them outpacing the 2012 group production-wise.
