I'm fine with no SEC team in the CFP this year

I really hate the conference championships won part. Is a conference trophy supposed to be Tolkein’s ring of power or Marvel’s Infinity Stone? Maybe to some lunatics, because it’s 2023 - but not to a god fearing man.

All a conference championship is supposed to mean is that the two most successful teams will be forced to play at some point during the season because the conferences consist of more teams than there are games in a season. Every team in a division is meant to play one another, else the championship game can be pointless. A conference championship does not decide the best team in a conference. It’s just a mechanism to settle a potential debate. Some years there is no debate, which means that some years the conference championship is meaningless.
Huh? What does God fearing have to do with the impact of a conference championship? This statement made more sense in your head than it does in a post.

How does the #1 team in the country for better part of three years fall to #5 after losing close game to #8 team? As much as we hate them if it was us in UGAs seat, we would be furious not getting in. Facts are facts both ways. If we beat USCe last year should we have made the dance? Take emotions out of this. This is why at least 8 team playoff is needed. UM vs TX and Washington vs FSU and Georgia and Alabama both would beat all four of the others.
Well the last 2 years don’t matter, only the results this year. UGA had the worst SOS of all the contenders entering yesterday. They did get a boost from playing Bama but here’s who they’re up against:
13-0, ACC Champ FSU. If FSU had a loss then maybe you take UGA but not with FSU undefeated.
12-1, Big 12 Champ Texas. Record-wise they’re the same. Texas won their Champ game, that’s a minor edge. The bigger edges are Texas beat Bama by 10 at Bama while UGA lost to Bama on a neutral field. Also, the Texas SOS is 13th while UGA is 37th. You take Texas.

Georgia and Michigan both played **** and they complain that they had a meaningful OOC cancelled (which is true). Well if that was the case and both had an open date, guess what, they could have played each other!

Had UGA handled business yesterday it’s a moot point.

Yeah but I an constantly repeating this but I would have loved to see the committee take into account OOC games and dump on Michigan for playing that sad OOC schedule. Same with Georgia had they been in the mix (they are not).

Texas won early in the season, doubt that happens today. By the way Georgia Tech fiinished 4th in the wannabe league. I am just advocating for the best 4 teams now, not what happened in September. If you think Ga and Alabama aren’t in the best 4 in the country, we’ve been watching different games. No participation trophies for accomplishments in the first 3-4 games of the season. Colorado was 3-0 during that time period.
Ah. So you want participation trophies for things that didn’t actually happen instead?

I don’t believe any rational analyst or college football fan thinks FSU beats UGA or Alabama.

The ACC is laughably weak.

If it’s a no sec playoff, then it will be Michigan vs Texas in a compelling natty and I’ll take Texas.

If it’s not I see a Texas vs SEC natty in a toss up
The ACC did well against the SEC this year.

The best way to send that message this year would be to put Texas in over Bama. That big OOC win has to mean something to Texas. Otherwise, why play a game like that? So I’m with you on rewarding good OOC games and punishing poor OOC scheduling.

USC Trojans and Media had a filled day in 2003 because the BCS got it right and left them out.
Got it right? Only if you think a team that lost by four touchdowns in their conference title game should have still played in BCS title game.

They will but you are punishing Alabama for playing Texas and losing and rewarding Michigan for not playing a decent Power 5 team. Alabama has already said this statement. Basically, they are like why did we schedule Texas? If we had played UL Monroe instead, we would be in now.

I think Washington can beat any team not in the SEC. I didn't say they will but they are a really good football team.

With that said, here are the conversations taking place in the committee.

-----------------

Hey guys remember our goal is to choose the 4 best teams.

Michigan and Washington are givens but who are the other two teams.

Let's discuss Florida State. They are an undefeated ACC champion. They have good wins over Clemson, Duke and Louisville. Their best win of over LSU on a neutral field. LSU is the 5th best team in the SEC. They have lost their top 2 quarterbacks and the ACC is arguably the weakest Power 5 conference.

Now let's look at the three 1 loss teams.

Texas - 1 loss Big 12 champion. Solid resume. Beat Alabama in a road game. Other top wins against Kansas State and Oklahoma State in the Big 12 championship game. In a league that is arguably the worst Power 5 league along with the ACC as 6-6 South Alabama and 6-6 Central Florida also claim blowout wins over Oklahoma State. Texas lost to the 2nd best team in the league - Oklahoma.

Alabama - SEC champion. Plays in top conference. Beat the two time defending national champions. Other top wins include Ole Miss, LSU and UT. Lost to another team in this discussion at home - Texas. A much different team from the beginning of the year when they were breaking in a new quarterback.

Georgia - SEC runner-up. Two-time defending champions. Top wins include Missouri, Ole Miss and at UT. Loss in SEC championship the first loss in over two years. Has spent the entire year at or near top of team ranking.

I don't see how people are going to neg on FSU and the ACC while they slot Michigan number 1. The Big Ten has been irrelevant at this level outside of OSU in the 21st century and Michigan's resume is pretty weak. Played nobody out of conference and beat OSU at home.

Florida State earned it and deserves it. They're right where they should be. It's a good thing the BCS is irrelevant because there's no way Alabama is over Texas never mind being the #3 seed. This reminds me of Nascar fans clinging to old meaningless points systems.
