I'm fine with no SEC team in the CFP this year

How does the #1 team in the country for better part of three years fall to #5 after losing close game to #8 team? As much as we hate them if it was us in UGAs seat, we would be furious not getting in. Facts are facts both ways. If we beat USCe last year should we have made the dance? Take emotions out of this. This is why at least 8 team playoff is needed. UM vs TX and Washington vs FSU and Georgia and Alabama both would beat all four of the others.
Next year...12

Texas won early in the season, doubt that happens today. By the way Georgia Tech fiinished 4th in the wannabe league. I am just advocating for the best 4 teams now, not what happened in September. If you think Ga and Alabama aren’t in the best 4 in the country, we’ve been watching different games. No participation trophies for accomplishments in the first 3-4 games of the season. Colorado was 3-0 during that time period.
Either all the games matter or none of them do. Which is it?

I don’t believe any rational analyst or college football fan thinks FSU beats UGA or Alabama.

The ACC is laughably weak.

If it’s a no sec playoff, then it will be Michigan vs Texas in a compelling natty and I’ll take Texas.

If it’s not I see a Texas vs SEC natty in a toss up

Liberty is 12-0 and JMU is 11-1 what’s your point?

Are you saying Liberty should be #4?

And JMU is = to OSU, UGA & Bama?

Over simplified, binary logic, 2 yo answer to a complex question. Quality of opposition absolutely matters so the answer is both do.

The real question is for this year which weighs more in the case vs case scenario.

I totally agree with Kirby Smart. “Deserving” is stupid. Put the 4 best in. 4 teams is always more than enough, but this year I admit the number of undefeateds is high.
No one has any issue with Libery not being considered, undefeated vs weak competition doesn’t mean much, see weak ACC , e.g, Louisville just lost a home final to low-middle sec team and made their conf championship game.

Given the shady officiating favoring UGA and AL all year. I think it's just as well to see AL left out if both MI and FSU win tonight.

I know the whole MI scandal is just as shady. But the playoff committee isn't going to touch that.
Alabama is in. Michigan Washington Alabama are in. There may be some discussion about Fla. St. Texas and Georgia.

Neither of those are in a power 5 conference. If you go undefeated in a power 5, you should be in. He's not referring to those schools, if Texas beating Alabama means nothing now, then Alabama beating Georgia, Michigan beating OSU, none of it should matter.

Liberty didn't beat Florida, LSU, and a ton of good ACC teams. Alabama effectively needed a miracle to best a 6-6 rival that had just gotten blown out by New Mexico State

ACC went 6-4 against SEC. FSU best 2 SEC teams. How are they laughable weak? They owned the SEC West this year.

Regardless of the noted sidebars, bama is IN. They beat #1 uga fair & square; which is the best win in CFB this season. Fsu will probably get hosed. Michigan, Washington, Bama, & who? That is the only question.

We will see, I think there is a great chance that both Alabama and Georgia are left out and they should be. SEC just did not get it done OOC. Only team I may leave out is Michigan for playing garbage schedule.

Nope. Michigan, Washington, Bama, and ??. You pick the last one, the others are stone cold. Just watch it happen. (Uga played a crap schedule, which eliminates them; and Texas has to move from 8 to 4 over # 4 Fsu, who won their game vs Louisville with a 3rd team QB)

FSU played, arguably, the hardest schedule of all of them. SOS and results matter to me. They should be in.

Leave Michigan out. Their OOC schedule was ECU, UNLV, and Bowling Green. SEND THE MESSAGE to end these stupid G5 games.

Here is where I hate the argument against FSU.

If Jordan Travis doesn’t get hurt, we aren’t even having a debate about whether Florida State gets in or not. Even if you don’t think they are better than Bama or UGA or Texas, everyone agrees they would get in.

So here’s my problem. Let’s pretend Jared Verse and Kalen DeLoach were out for the year and in the last two games FSU beat Florida 45-38 and Louisville 42-35…

The committee wouldn’t care about the injuries to their two best defenders. It wouldn’t be a topic to the committee. But it is the QB, which is so high profile. So they talk about it.

I don’t think that is fair.

The committee’s guidelines say that they are supposed to consider injuries to key players and coach status.

I haven’t read anyone mention Ohio State. If strength of record matters, their only loss will be to the number 1 team. Bama nor Georgia have that claim.

The BCS computer was better at picking than the playoff committee. We don’t know what these yahoos of the playoffs committee really consider. We only know what they claim. Why did anyone think a bunch of politicians could do it better than an algorithm? What matters most to me is that we should know what the criteria is before the season begins and ensure that the best teams, per that criteria, are selected. Was it really too difficult to pick the top 4 BCS teams?
I’m in full agreement on the computer/algorithm. I never understand and still don’t understand the issue with an unbiased pick based on the inputed criteria. The algorithm doesn’t care what your name is, who your coach is, who your commissioner is, how much $ you generate the NCAA or conferences etc. It said based on what you fed me, here are the teams in order.

The playoff committee has had the same four playoff teams that the BCS would have had. There are people who are still running the BCS model and it’s been exactly the same as the playoff every year since 2014.
