I don't see how in the heck we can spend scholarships on guys like Crump and Sapp, but we can't get more than 1 (and not a definite qualifier) defensive tackle to commit. The second biggest need on the team.

Boise St guy and Chuck Smith will probably be announced in the next few days I'm guessing. Just a feeling, no sources.

Oooooo...its a Deep Burn...but your right Sab. Now that thats out of the way though...GO VOLS!! NOTHING BUT POSITIVES! We will fill it out next year with a few big DTs for sure since we will have our DC in place!

As far as Copeland is concerned, I speculate Coach Zero had something to do with him not coming to us more than the speculation regarding no D-Coordinator. It would be a P.R. nightmare for the USC guys to have ESPNU at both their university and Tennessee, only to have the story be "Tennessee keeps Kiffin's commits and picks up more". Kiffin and Coach Zero depend on media momentum with their brand of "Push Selling" recruiting. They cannot afford to have it look like they are taking a backseat, media wise, to Tennessee in any way, shape, or form. That is why, in my humble opinion, both coach zero and lower case k would encourage recruits to go other places than Tennessee, if they cannot get said recruit to USC.

Bottom line I agree. However I'm hopeful that a 32 year old D-Coordinator may be able to get some young D-Line talent in here.

yeah I was really excited for him....best of luck to JC...coach 'em Dooley lord know we'll need you to. But still a Top 15 is great and if you would of offered me a Top 20 Class the day K left I would have gladly signed.

No DC or DL coach in place.

We don't have a defensive coordinator either. IMO that's no excuse. It's a hindrance, but if you are taking guys like Crump and Sapp -- surely there's an under-recruited 3 star DT out there more deserving of a scholarship.

The Vols are currently 8 on Rivals and USC just rocketed to 5th. Sapp and Crump might fit into the Wilcox model.

Dts are few and everybody wants and needs them...but I do agree Sab.

I agree. I also have faith. There is a major change in defense coming that maybe we do not know about. No hiring officially Chuch Smith had to be a factor with some of these recruits. The leak of the DC may have played into it also. 2nd biggest need there is no doubt. We are lucky we survived the K era.

CDD did pretty well for just over 2 weeks being on the job...But go ahead and be critical...It helps a lot......NOT.....

We are goin to be running a 3-4 defense.. meaning we really only need 1 DT at the time on the field. We have 4 to 5 DTs on roster not including if we get John Brown still.

Hey I'm happy---we're still in the top 10---hopefully we bring Coach Smith and Wilcox. I'll be interested to see what Coach Wilcox can do with some SEC caliber talent (he seemed to coach up Boise State quite well with not the same caliber of players)

I meant Defensive Coordinator when I said DC.
I agree about the big reaches they took. If they're going to take a couple of guys with thin offer lists, they should be reaching for a DT.

Word is leaking that Brown has signed. Check other threads here.

we definately needed some dt commits. it is easier to take a chance on a lower ranked skill player than a d lineman in my opinion though.

I'm not too concerned, I suppose. We can build up later or switch some guys over.

If , and that's a big if because we don't really know, we switch to a 3-4, having those huge defensive tackles isn't such a big deal, as we're solid on guys who can play on the ends and as a DE/LB hybrid kind of guy.
